The bills you reference in that post were small (comparatively, anyway) bills. The objection to this bill is that it is too big, spending nearing a trillion dollars over several years, etc. But we've spent that same amount basically (http://zfacts.com/p/447.html) on Iraq, and the total will only continue to climb, with Republicans insisting there should be little to no debate in passing those bills. A trillion for Iraqis, yes, a trillion for Americans, no. That's the trap they've locked themselves into.
And then there's the other hypocrisy... namely, that all the bills you mentioned were passed under a Republican president (George W. Bush, whom I hope you do remember this time)-- with considerable Democratic support-- and now under a Democratic president, suddenly they're budget hawks.
...were objecting to the continued presence of pork in the bill. (Sound familiar?)
Republicans love screaming "pork" when it concerns domestic spending as proposed by a Democrat? I'm not saying Democrats are innocent when it comes to pork-barrel spending, but the Republicans are too it just has more to do with voter priorities. Infrastructure spending probably plays better to union workers and less to the military culture or the extreme paranoid, but why alienate yourself from potential voters *right leaning Democrats* during an election year? 2009 is a different ball-game. Post election beat-down the Republicans are trying hard to consolidate their base and bring those retarded Ron Paul voters back into the fold - but they are probably betting that the notoriously short short-term memory of the American public will give them an advantage.
You guys are absolutely correct. After we bombed the shit out of Iraq, we should have just withdrawn our troops and left. Screw security, screw infrastructure, screw the hospitals and schools. We should have taken all their oil and left the country a big, smoking ruin.
actually, we never should have bombed the shit out of iraq, and after we made the tragic mistake of doing it, we should have given all of the work rebuilding it to iraqi companies and the iraqi people using our money. it would have got the job done a hell of a lot cheaper than no bid contracts for halliburton et al, and it would have given the iraqi people a way to make a living, ownership in their country, and something to do besides blow shit up. we should have had all of our troops out of there in two years.

Very little principle there.
