I'm just telling you where the word comes from. So now that you know it has racist origins, you can stop using it.

It's similar to telling some people (who don't know anything about black oppression), that relating black people to monkeys (unless they seriously -do- look like one) is racist and has a long history in American black oppression. Once they're told, they should accept the facts and stop using it. You were told, before me, that it was racist, and you denied it without even a quick google search to find out if it was true or not. You're trying to stay in ignorance to protect your innocence, which frankly isn't working and is even more offensive.

A proper response would be, "I did not know that, I will stop."

I didn't know it was a racial slur either. I've always heard people use it interchangeably with things like "dumbass" or "idiot".

I thought it was an alternate of "dingbat." I use dink, dinkle, and the classic dinklefarb pretty interchangeably, and to date not once have I ever had anyone call me a racist, or even point out that "dink" is another word for "gook." I mean, one reason is that I run in a close circle of polite, classy people that don't even *know* any racial epithets beyond the N word possibly; the other is that I run in a close circle of polite, classy people who don't go into conniptions when someone uses a word they think is taboo. Nonetheless, I won't be employing that word on LiveJournal anymore, I mean, duh.

meh, it's racist if you are using a monkey analogy for the sole reason he's black (and you'll note, Biden, Clinton, and assorted other white people were represented as monkeys too).
