Date: 2009-01-16 02:13 pm (UTC)Remember when your boy McCain explained that the fundementals of the economy were strong, when foreclosures were going through the roof, consumer confidence was tanking, and investment banks were tanking every week? Same thing. If the fundementals of the economy weren't strong, we'd be in much worse shape than we are right now. Even if you know someone who's living in a shantytown, that is an extreme symptom of a bad economy. Likewise, I know doctors who could give flip all about the state of the economy, as their personal fisc is doing quite, quite well right now.
The economy is not as dismal as it could be, considering all the mismanagement and malfeasance that has been undertaken by banks and government before and after the bubble popped and the wealth effect went away.
Just as personal economy does not equal the economy, the weather does not equal the climate.
I once read a good piece debunking the idea of intelligent design to the economy. The economy really can be used to beat you paleocons all about the head and shoulders, as its the one god you all worship in common.

Date: 2009-01-16 05:47 pm (UTC)It needs to be interrupted by a commercial for "Snuggle" to be accurate.
These 'toons are not so stupid...
Date: 2009-01-16 05:36 pm (UTC)1- the news will scare the shit out of you any way it can. And that's true. More drama means higher ratings. So, I think this one is a commentary on the news, not so much on climate.
2- Given we've had a few days of super-cold weather, you could say that - while climate change is real and the globe overall is warming - winter won the most recent "ROUND." It doesn't mean that "Global Warming" won't get up in the next round where we find the snowman with all 5 chunks of coal ablaze while he melts into a puddle on the canvas.

Date: 2009-01-16 07:57 pm (UTC)Now I will explain it for you:
The top cartoon features hysteria about "global warming" juxtaposed with hysteria about it being "really cold".
The second one is just plain silly.
It's humor; get over it. (And yourself.)

Date: 2009-01-17 03:04 pm (UTC)I mean, it's always been pretty fucking hot, and we've had droughts like this before (1890s, 1930s), so it could all be a co-inkidink; but for me, it all comes down to if we're wrong, and do something, we lose some cash. If we're right and do nothing, we lose THE ENTIRE FREAKING PLANET.
No jobs on a dead planet people.
