So you do approve of this (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v36/weezthejuice37/LJ%20Pics/LJ%20Pics%203/feature9c06f8fb5bf7094989344e6456d2.gif). Okay.
I approve of any person making as much money as they can. I also approve of a person being held responsible for making mistakes. I realize that the first is an evil concept to you and that the second is a concept you would never understand.
I approve of any person making as much money as they can.
This is not the objection here.
You are purposely missing the point of this cartoon. It's about how the people at the top are allowed to make huge failures that ripple worldwide (walking away with huge bonuses and millions anyway) while 96% of the country (struggling to make ends meet) is left holding the bag. It's about how those at the top, who control all our economic fates more or less, privatize the rewards of a good economy, while then socializing the risks/consequences of a bad economy. Etc.
That they are not held responsible is the entire point.
You mean the part where you say, "I also approve of a person being held responsible for making mistakes?" That's the point of this cartoon. When these business leaders make horrible mistakes, while they may lose their jobs, walking away with hundreds of millions lacks the appearance of "being held responsible" for anything.
The boards won't though, because they're made up of other CEO types and are therefore incestuous and self-protective. And, obviously, destructive to the health of the nation. But to do something about that would require governmental regulation, which is the worst sin of all apparently.
If only the New Deal hadn't destroyed personal responsibility none of this would've ever happened.
I have no problem with any CEO making as much money as the Board of Directors will allow. I also have no problem with a Board of Directors for not giving bonuses or even a salary if the CEO screws up.
