That video is quite amazing. It has been ages since (if ever) I heard someone reason that out in a way which didn't involved yelling at or mocking the conservatives and fundies who are against gay marriage, or pointing out how hollow and broken marriage is nowadays with divorces etc like crazy or how many unhappy ones there are.

My personal opinion is dissolve/ban marriage altogether and make civil unions the status quo. Remove the religion from it and leave it as something about an expression of love.

I've been a big supporter of this. My reasoning? To protect marriage (the institution) as all the anti-gay marriage proponents profess. If religion is going to claim that marriage is a religious institution then it should be removed from government altogether. The government should implement unions as you say and the churches can call them marriages if they like. Separation of church and state.
