I remember when Powell was vilified by the left and called all kinds of derisive terms. But then he supports obama and suddenly he's accepted as one of the group.

Just more proof of the lock step mentality.

Just more proof of the lock step mentality.

The lockstep mentality of both the left and the right, because when Powell endorsed Obama, suddenly the right considered their former great american hero a traitor, as this video points out pretty well.

And, if you actually paid attention, you'd note that the a lot of the left doesn't forgive Powell (http://theimpolitic.blogspot.com/2008/10/colin-powell-endorses-obama.html) just for his endorsement. But, again, you'd have to be paying attention which might go against those neatly laid Talking Points you conjure up in your head.

For the average American though, Powell has always been well respected and we've also seen how he butted heads against the worst of the NeoCons (Cheney/Rumsfield) by being one of the most reasonable voices (at the time) in the Administration. Otherwise, the endorsement wouldn't have mattered to anyone and the right wingers wouldn't have blown their gaskets over it.

I always thought Powell was a great man sold out by his bosses, I'd go so far as to say that he was a shining light in a sea of darkness that has been the last 8 years. I'd love to see him have something to do in Obama's administration (although, I've heard recently that there's restrictions on that due to him already having served or something...). I think he'd make a great sec def if he was able to do it.

And I was saying all this before his endorsement. People should be judged on merit, not on party lines. (the sooner people figure out they should be criticising Obama's every move, rather than swooning and making excuses the better)
