I watched the clip and then through the use of sarcasm I was able to display how its only showing some of the facts, but not how the same stuff happens to men too. Also, I noticed the lack of dates on most of the quotes. How old are those? Proof would be nice.
Your link proved what? Not sure. The fact that they don't have a date is important because we are looking at something that more existed in the past then does now.
Wait can you clarify that? Past as in February as opposed to May? I think your statement would make more sense if we were looking at a difference of years, but I doubt that you can seriously consider elevated or decreased levels of ANY -ism over the course of months. In fact, the only reason you may be correct that there is less Hillary sexism in the media now as opposed to the beginning of the year is that now most people are aware she hasn't got a chance, so the talk is less focused on her womanly nature and capabilities, but just how ridiculous her continued campaign is. Whereas for a while there was still hope for her which meant all the pundits and talking heads could still talk about her as if she could soon achieve the nomination and then president.
But again, I think that's irrelevant to the fact that you think this sexism existed more in, say, November, than it does now.
When j0kerr asked for dates on the quotes, I think it was in reference to the text quotes in the video (e.g. Susan B. Anthony, etc.) not the video clips of Chris Matthews, Pat Buchanan, etc.
Personally, I think the old quotes are relevant to the video because it provides a little historical context for the sexism women have faced in our society. It's makes the point that "the more things change, the more they stay the same."
Well, now you have lied. I never said I think sexism existed more in November than it does now. You have states this was a fact in the following quote: "But again, I think that's irrelevant to the fact that you think this sexism existed more in, say, November, than it does now." You said it was a fact when it is not. Stop lying. All I did was ask for dates for the quotes and you got all defensive. You seem to be protesting a little too much.
Far from it. November was merely an example month. But as it was pointed out, if you mean the quotes that were interspersed with the video, then that is a different case. My previous comments only apply if you were referring to dates of the clips. That's what I'm asking you to clarify.
Well, thats good you didn't attack me then. Thats against the rules of the forums. You did however assume something that was false, which didn't make you look very good.
And round we go. Nope. I asked for clarification, and specified why I sought it. All was hypothetical based on one interpretation of what you said. That's all. Carry on.
You admitted that you assumed what I meant. Then went on the defense on the assumption. Please try not to do it again. It gets nothing accomplished, but at least you were willing to admit your mistake.
Did I ever say stop whining about anything? The answer is no. I just pointed out that sexism in the media targets both genders. So if you want to tackle the issue you must look at everything. You have now pointed out the media also is ageist, and racist. So we are looking at a media that is sexist, ageist, and racist?
Why? You agree with me. Therefor you can come up with your own samples. To humor you though, males are usually portrayed in the media as idiots who can't do anything without a woman of superior intelligence helping them.
You'd make a far better case arguing that other, relevant forms of bias affect individual candidates depending on who they are e.g., Obama and racism; McCain and ageism, rather than pretend to acknowledge certain biases in contexts where they're not even relevant.
ETA: Just to clarify, I'm not arguing that male-targeted sexism doesn't exist. I'm arguing that I've yet to see male sexism in the media aimed at Obama and McCain. On the other hand, there are plenty of instances of racist bias against Obama, and ageist bias against McCain in the media.
I supported Hillary, but I also love Obama and will be supporting him. They are both great candidates. I do however agree with the point of the video that there is a lot of sexism for her to get around. Well, it's more like she came with a lot of baggage. I really want to see a woman President. And I hope we find someone great in my lifetime.
Sure...as a woman, it bugs me, but one could put together a series of clips highlighting the bias of any of the candidates...the problem is that it's still politically correct to make sexist comments, but people censor themselves a bit when it comes to racial bias.
You could, if you have the spare time, put together clips that are all racist to Obama, or attack McCains ages. Its not hard with time and a little editing, throw some music in and there you go.
