a hundred years earlier and it was just called slavery.
before that it was an inquisition.
hmm is there a trendy name for the kurds, or the other nationalities that are victims of genocide in modern times. whats the difference in what goes on in the israelli palestine war. they both kill based on the persons religion what because they aren't encamped they are not the same. how about the japenese internment?
is it that hitler was the first one to commit such atrocities in an age of mass media that made it such a big deal. or are we just turning a blind eye to the ones who kill doing the same thing now.

I think the point is that such things are, unfortunetly, universal. The Holocaust happens to be the most identifiable example, at least for the current time and place (modern western society).

pol pot in cambodia, work camps, torture, in the late 70's 2 million dead. he singled out muslims and other minority groups.
he died at 79 in 1998 we turned a blind eye to that, yes we put political sanctions on him, but we still took trade from his country.
stalin in the 30's killed 7 million in forced famine, yet the political goverments at the time did nothing then either.
what if you kill outside of your own country its a spotlight in history. but if you kill inside your country it only warrants political sanctions.

Either way, that's 2 million shy of the lower estimate of the Holocaust. And think how many had to die to stop it.

(remember how pissed off the american public was after 11ish soldiers died in Somalia?)

not yelling, just thinking

Holocaust vs. Slavery: I think one is a systematic mass genocide and one is a systematic enslavement. Treating people as scum to be rid of vs. Treating people as property to be used.

Holocaust vs. Inquisition: both wanted to get rid of the odd ones, be they gays, political dissenters, or religious heretics. However, Holocaust is much larger scale (6 million Jews in 5 years)

Holocaust vs. Israel-Palestine: Holocaust was more of a racial distinction, whereas Israel-Palestine is a religious conflict. Also, Israel-Palestine can be termed as "war"/"conflict", where both sides are participating in killing, etc. Whereas the Jews were essentially herded into camps.

Holocaust vs. Japanese Internment: Both involved uprooting citizens and moving them into concentration camps. Holocaust involved killing such people.

And a few others that you didn't mention...

Armenia
Nanking
Rwanda
Darfur

Perhaps we are turning a blind eye because it is happening in Africa?

Not that this justifies anything but historically many Jews in Germany at the time were Communists and were persecuted for their politics and not their faith.
