War on Terror[ble deseases]
Jul. 21st, 2006 01:27 pmSince there has been such lengthy conversation about the stem-cell cartoon I had posted earlier, I think this followup is due. If you missed yesterday's Daily Show, Jon Stewart was at his best.

I wish Jon Stewart would run for office. Stewart/Colbert '08 would be a hell of a ticket.

Date: 2006-07-21 09:56 pm (UTC)I hear you about the new, more opinionated Stewart. But I'd argue that considering how he makes fun of stupidity regardless of party lines, he mostly appears to be leaning to the left because the decision makers in Washington (who he makes fun of) lately have been predominately republican. The democratic party is the confused, quarrelsome, and virtually powerless entity right now.
I really enjoy Stewart's appearances on other people's shows. He's always candid and focused, and I really think that he speaks for the moderate majority today. Did you see his interview on Larry King Live last year? Bloody fantastic.

Date: 2006-07-21 10:08 pm (UTC)And yeah, I've caught Stewart on Larry King, and I think he did a show on Letterman too. Of course, there's the always infamous Crossfire performance. I just really like how him (and now Colbert too) have been able to jump from late night cable to national influence, using comedy and satire to awake the country to problems with politics.

Date: 2006-07-22 02:06 am (UTC)You assume I represent the left? The Libertarian party holds views closest to mine, but that's of no consequence. Sit down, adjust your helmet and try to understand this: the problem with this country today doesn't lie in the left or the right, it is in the extremists--regardless to weather they are liberal or conservative.
So open your eyes to all sides of the issues at hand, question even your own party, and do your part in becoming the answer. There is still hope for you to become a moderate.

Date: 2006-07-22 05:39 am (UTC)I used to consider myself most closely aligned with them (and still do, to some degree), but I have a lot of trouble voicing any sort of support for them anymore after some of the ridiculous things the party has said, done, and endorsed the past few years.

Date: 2006-07-24 12:09 am (UTC)I want separation of Church and State,
I don't LIKE abortion, but I believe it's a woman's right to choose,
I'm against gun "control" and for gun SAFETY training,
I support the troops, am against the war, and I believe that those two are NOT mutually exclusive,
I want a plan for amnesty for immigrants,
HARSH punishments for sexual preditors,
Anti capitol-punishment,
Basically, I just want everyone to be able to do their own thing, as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else.

cause they know all management jobs are bullshit.
ergo colbert/stewart 08 would never fly
but it is an amusing thought though, especially them being so politically different...
