It's not just during "summer"... the average temperature for ALL seasons is rising. Just go watch the documentary, it's not as bad as Michael Moore's junk.
I've often wondered what would happen if scientists proved beyond a reasonable doubt that global warming is occurring, the earth is now hotter than it's ever been, and it was a completely natural phenomenon that man has nothing to do with. I think the enviro wackos would be scattered in many different directions. A lot of them would drop out altogether. What's the point of crying the sky is falling if you can't use it as an opportunity to stick it to conservatives?
Wow, that's one of the lamest responses I've ever heard. Truly wank-tastic.
Yeah, as if nobody is gonna give a fuck if sea level rises 20 feet, the same way nobody cares as the number of hurricanes per season increase, and as the average strength of hurricanes increase, (y'know, the way everybody just ignored that whole Katrina thing - well, besides, FEMA, Homeland Security and the White House).
Yup, that's more "deep" thinking from the Right Wing.
Nigga please. You're smoking a good pipe if you think everyone who raises alarums about global warming is acting purely out of disinterested concern for mankind. Scientists are just being scientists - competent within their own fields, often complete dunces on other subjects such as what to do about global warming. A good deal of the Watermelons are using it as nothing more than another political too. Capitalism is like the Catholic Church - when people are attacking it, any old stick will do.
Yes... because all this science... you know... the things scientists say? It's just rhetoric to get at the republicans. That's all... They don't say things because they actually think they are TRUE, they say them for politics.
If what you say happened, I think everyone would be completely relieved. You might hear a few reply with, "Well, I'm glad they found that out, but I did what I thought was right with the information I had." And republicans don't have any problems with that statement, do they?
It's not the scientists I'm criticizing, it's the lefties who know nothing of science themselves uncritically accepting everything scientists say at face value and then using it as a stick to beat capitalism and the White House.

There'd probably be the same discussion of attempting to counter it. No one wants the three foot long mosquitos of the times when dinosaurs ruled the earth.
Absolutely regardless of whether or not global warming is occurring, there are still a large number of noble goals that rise from environmentally conscious attitudes: clean water, clean air, reduced wastage of our natural resources, just to name a few. I personally don't care much for the fact that we are having more and more "smog day" alerts in Toronto every year, and there are a significant number of days where I can't see the downtown skyscrapers and the CN Tower from my residence because of local pollution and pollution blowing in from the US northeast.
We should still work to reduce the other problems, and if global warming turns out to be exacerbated by our actions, we will have taken the appropriate steps to minimize that as well. If not, nothing lost in that area, and we still will have done our best to repair the actual environmental issues to which we've been contributing.
Ooooh, I get it. So global warming is really just a year-round summer (that will greatly harm the world, but that's irrelevant). SWEET! Let's hit the beach!
This doesn't even make sense. It loses at cause and effect: the key in differentiating summer from not-summer is the change in Earth's tilt. So no, Mr. Newsanchor Man, the scientific term for this phenomenon is makingajackassofyourselfonair.
Actually, I've noted in the past that in many ways global warming = terrorism for neoconservatives. Regardless of how much of a danger it really is, you can be sure that they'll exploit it to further their own goals of increasing government control over society.
There are too many people talking for me to reply to any one comment. That being said, this may have already been said:
But yes, there is a lot of political bullshit, and Global Warming has been turned into a political matter. That doesn't make it any less real.
Yes, global warming is natural. Yes, temperature changes on the Earth are cyclical. Yes, we are currently on a natural warming trend. Yes, humans are exacerbating the problem, causing temperatures to rise faster and higher than they are supposed to. Anything that we can do to slow this warming down, or even better, stablize it, is a good thing.
Now, some moron's going to come up and say "Well, if it's natural, we shouldn't stop it." Well, species go extinct naturally. If "something natural" is going to cause either a huge detriment to or the extinction of the human race, then yes, it a good idea to stop that "something natural" from happening.
