there's something missing in that cartoon, the politicians pandering for votes.

Um...

I don't think you understand the cartoon. That's exactly what it's about, pandering to the racists and the suits.

As opposed to pandering to unions and to Hispanics?

Awww, someone who actually uses the word "suits" in conversation.

Credibility = 0.

Since when does using "suits" have a social connotation?

From: [identity profile] vlion.livejournal.com
Since it became used as a pejorative.

Dude you're such a dork. It's all about international these days. I don't know why people keep insisting it is all about "rich white men" when the hottest places in the country are multi-ethnic! :D

I mean get with the times, that's so 1970's, urban culture has diversified a bit since then.

Oh, STFU with your "Stereotype much?" comment. You came all over yourself when you saw these "a-stereotypical" (http://community.livejournal.com/politicartoons/664315.html) gems (http://community.livejournal.com/politicartoons/665085.html).

Do you honestly believe yourself to be intelligent or something?

It amazes me how you have such an uppity attitude when showing yourself to be a retard time and time again.

And dude, stop fucking replying to me until you change your icon...I may be fat and ugly too, but at least I have the decency not to offend others with my ugly self as my default icon.

Now, where were we? Yeah, those two images you posted are not even close to being on the same level of stereotyping as is done in this comic. If you can't see that, then something is wrong.

It's kind of gotten a bit complicated as we've have sort of a weird system where the parents are breaking the law, and their children aren't... makes for some interesting times, certainly as the next generation is about to grow up into full us citizenship. I mean everyone who is born here qualifies.

Again, it's not immigration that's the problem, it's illegal immigration. If you're going to make a stereotypical cartoon about it, at least get the issue right.

Why is it illegal?

Stupid, stupid, stupid cartoon. This sort of moronic hypocritical stereotyping is one of the big reasons the majority of people in this country don't take the left seriously at all.

I think the cartoonist stereotyped white people rather well. Seriously. He got us bang on.

When we're not poor, dumb, backwoods rednecks, we're rich, devious, high-society elites.

Granted all the complaints people are making. . . I still think this cartoon covers the majority of people on each side. Please remember that this community, and in all probability your friends, are not an accurate sampling of the country.

You know I never got that, why should we be any different then the rest of the country? If I remember properly about 1 in 4 americans has a college degree or something, so some knowledge of politics is pretty bloody normal. So have you met that many people who fit in well with stereotypes?? I've met one or two and i was facinated, it is really kind of shocking to find someone who buys into something that completely, otherwise I'm afraid people were boring nuanced hybrids... so disappointing. I'd love to meet a genuine crazy person, I mean imagine the conversation!

I mean come-on, we're either smart or dumb but you can't take a random sampling of people and complement our intelligence while saying that everyone else in the country is dumb as rocks... that's poor logic. If you said that this group was more likely be between 15-40, that I can believe. It's the internet generation baby! :D

I have met a fair number of people who fit the guy on the left, mainly when I was working for the county road crew. Perhaps I am overestimating how many of them there are; I rather hope so. As to the one on the right, his position seems to be merely a blunt way of phrasing "Immigrants do the work Americans won't do," because what it really means is that immigrants work for wages and in conditions Americans wouldn't tolerate.

From: [identity profile] psych0squirrel.livejournal.com
It depends on the economy, and immigrants like everyone else aren't always stupid. In some places the work "americans won't do" is pretty benign, such as service sectors which have a pretty damned high turnover. Hell if the economy is hot enough we even import people from Europe for blue collar positions, it's called youth visa programs, which i suppose is somewhat like an internship. It is all pretty localized, some immigrants have become savvier lately about trying to avoid the super-saturated areas. I mean you can't say that all of them are starting from the same position and knowledge base when families been here long enough to have their kids attend public school and inch towards graduation, time passes. The currency crisis and baby boom that pushed Mexicans to immigrate was in the mid-1990s. (There is of course always the problem that they are more suceptable to office politics and little manager syndrome, and that is pretty significant as they don't have recorse.) :D

Besides, the people who parrot idealogies that they don't seem to understand properly tend to be stupid. I'd just ignore them and try to get on with life because it's a waste of time. If they are getting their jollies by being better off then illegal immigrants that's kind of a sad existence. Politics seem to be shifting anyway, if they are bright enough they'll play catch up to whatever political identity they are claiming.

Of course you've met them: 300 million people, all of them looking for an identity??? Yeah you'll find a few people who want to brainwash themselves, they tend to be very angry people. Everyone wants to feel higher then someone, and that's probably how they do it, kind of like bullies in HS. :D

Well technically, the businessman and the Mexican are trading, otherwise the Mexican's wouldn't be bringing themselves here. I dunno. We had some of them working as baggage handlers at the airport I worked at last summer, they were treated about the same as everyone else. It's a company, I don't know if they all had papers or not but they were pretty much just staff because it's bad policy in a big company to treat your workers poorly, even if they are assigned different tasks. Also big companies pay more, they're soaking up a lot of the labor pool in a lot of places moreso then lawn care. A lot of immigrants go into construction which doesn't seem to be that poorly paid.

As for the union politics, well that's always been kind of shady. You are talking about a movement designed to keep a monopoly on jobs, and other people out of them. So of course there would be a certain amount of nativism there, sketch! I don't see why middle class people don't realize that and just keep out of the fray, people generally are served better by getting more education in the long run. I mean if they actually take it seriously, a diploma without effort really doesn't provide for much job potential as you need to match creativity and savvy planning to determine what the jobs are looking for. I mean who has time for nativism these days? It's such a waste of time and takes entirely too much effort. I really don't know how people sustain it, it just seems like it would block them out of most business endevors as the workforce is pretty diverse these days.
