Their support of institutions and procedures hinges entirely on how much each institution or procedure is supporting what they want. I doubt you'll see them rally behind the states opposing any of this, either, despite their 'vociferous dedication' to states' rights.
I've always found it interesting how they advocate for increasing arming of militias and individuals to oppose an oppressive state while also advocating for reinforcing the already-hegemonic big government military those militias and citizens are supposed to defend against. It's like they're in an arms race with themselves.
The main reason I can no longer claim the Republican Party (and am forced to say things like "I'm an Eisenhower Republican") is because the current party is actually for INCREASING government control and interference. This is so completely against everything the party is SUPPOSED to stand for, and it pisses me off to no end.
Yes, definitely. I don't mean to be reductionist, but in the end it's all part of the same American martial fantasy; the one that draws Republicans. Grown men running around with guns in the forests of Indiana, imagining revolution. Then going home and shedding a tear watching George W. Bush land on the aircraft carrier with the "Mission Accomplished" banner.
In our case it was grown men shooting at college girls who were protesting the war. OPD opened fire on those young ladies in colorful clothing. Those men were pretending they were in Iraq. I'll never forget it.
