Tom Tomorrow got the drop on him with that gag but it's still good; I particularly like the arms. Latuff's English is still more coherent than Bush's and I wonder how many of the haters have better Portuguese?

Fair enough. What I think's relevant is that Latuff is catching flak not because his English is imperfect but because people resent his resolute presentation of the truth about the world; that the US is not a force for good, that Israel is not a victim, that the folks on the hill don't have the best interests even of their own citizens at heart.

Maybe people don't like Latuff's cartoons b/c they aren't very good. I have seen other people's cartoons that bring up the same point as this one and they were much better. This is just weak no matter how you feel politically. That can be said about most of his cartoons.

I don't think the volume and venom of the vitriol spewed at Latuff can be explained solely as criticism of the quality of his work, no. You raise an interesting issue though; the relative importance of truth and beauty to art. Is it valid for a political message to take priority over aesthetic concerns? What do you think?

I don't suppose any of you considered that it may be artistic limitations that prompted him to draw a Hurricane that looks more like a tornado? A Hurricane would be rather difficult to draw from that perspective, especially if he has difficulty drawing people from a bird's eye perspective. Drawing a funnel may not be accurate, but it gets the point across in a concise manner. Or it could just be ignorance. Anyway, listening to the bad tempered and anal (Dur, that ain't no Hurricane! The comic is rendered irrelevant, dur hur hur....) whining of some of you guys has made my day. Keep it up!

Considering that The Prez can't speak for shit and that this administration keeps making shit graphics and assigning WMD status to wooden airplanes kept together with tape, I think this is spot on.

I don't wish to give latuff too much credit but obvious some rather obvious alegories seem to have flown right over the head of our more reactionary friends here.

I don't think it went over their heads. The peanut gallery here aren't thick so much as very adept at avoiding reality. Seizing on the grammatical errors of someone whose first language obviously isn't English is just the latest tactic to justify personal abuse, diverting discussion away from Latuff's message.
