Mostly because they don't love Jesus either. They love to use his name, but I can guarantee you, that most of them don't have a clue about what Jesus was like in the actual source material.
Not Paul either. Paul teaches us that "the greatest of these is love". Even the verse conservatives site as their anti-gay evidence is part of a larger monologue leading up to "You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things."
Frankly, the real 'hero' of the "christian" right would be the pharisees. Not that they'd admit that.
