When I posted the above, I didn't realize she had just (the day before) surpassed Queen Victoria to become the longest reigning Queen in history, so I just felt like acknowledging that. :-)
I wondered about this, because Eleanor of Aquitaine is never mentioned by historians regarding this point, so I looked it up, and I found this
Eleanor of Aquitaine: Queen consort of the Franks Tenure 1 August 1137 – 21 March 1152 Queen consort of England Tenure 25 October 1154 – 6 July 1189 Coronation 19 December 1154 Died 1 April 1204 (aged c. 81/82)
Victoria: Reign 20 June 1837 – 22 January 1901 Coronation 28 June 1838 Died 22 January 1901 (aged 81)
Elizabeth II: Reign 6 February 1952 – present Coronation 2 June 1953 Born: April 21, 1926 (age 89)
Sorry--I should have said Elizabeth II is the longest reigning queen REGNANT in history, not just the longest reigning queen. That's what I meant, but forgot the key word "regnant."
Just in case anyone doesn't know, a queen regnant is "is a female monarch who reigns in her own right," as opposed to a queen consort, who is the wife of a reigning king. (Emphasis added. Source (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_regnant).)
Eleanor of Aquitaine was a queen consort, so she still holds the record for longevity in that category--but Elizabeth is now the longest reigning queen regnant ever. :-)
