The first one reminded me that Dylann Roof was pretty young himself.

The old do their damnedest to indoctrinate the young--for better or worse. But Dylan Roof is going to jail and potentially going to get executed.

It's a lot diff than when Sherriffs were lynching black men for looking at white women, and teaching their kids that "this is the natural order of things"

Not enough vestiges of his old ways. Kid needs to still be getting into a pickup truck, wearing a John Deere hat, with a Chick-Fil-A bumper sticker and a NIMBY or "NOBAMA" sticker on the truck as well.

Given that it was raised as a result of the Civil Rights Movement gaining momentum (it was thrown up in 1962, if memory serves) and that millennials don't have anger over the CRM, I'm unsure of their love for the flag, aside from the children of bigots who indoctrinated em heavily.

And it's not even just a southern thing.

Well of course it isn't. I hope it's NOT widespread, but I have heard some bigoted comments in New York City, which really took me off guard when I first came across it. I was also pretty surprised to learn that New York has the most segregated schools in the United States. (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/03/26/new-york-schools-segregated_n_5034455.html)

There's also a high level of "double segregation," Orfield said in an interview, as students are increasingly isolated not only by race, but also by income: the typical black or Latino student in New York state attends a school with twice as many low-income students as their white peers. That concentration of poverty brings schools disadvantages that mixed-income schools often lack: health issues, mobile populations, entrenched violence and teachers who come from the least selective training programs. "They don't train kids to work in a society that's diverse by race and class," he said. "There's a systematically unequal set of demands on those schools."
