Will we ever see a cartoon in this LJ-community that doesn`t support the Supreme Court`s decision? Is the other side banned now? Will a person be jailed or fined for speaking her mind and laughing at those gay (I mean `merry and happy` by saying `gay`) couples? I`d like to see some freedom of speech in action here.
SHHH! People use "freedom of speech" to mean: "I can say the most vile thing on the planet, and you, a private person, cannot hold it against me, cause FREE SPEECH!"
People are pretty ignorant on what the first amendment is actually about.
If LJ posts were removed for being critical of, say, Putin or Obama, now that *could* be a free speech issue, depending on who was removing said posts.
The only argument against marriage equality is religious; merely religious reasons aren't sufficient for law. Marriage, from the State's perspective, is merely a legal contract which simplifies establishing various legal relationships between the parties being married. However, also due to separation of church and state, since the state can legally marry people, there is no legal obligation for any particular pastor to marry two people of the same sex, imo.
I would challenge you to find a CARTOON that is AGAINST the Supreme Court ruling that is neither a) based upon a hateful set of assertions about LGBT people nor b) immensely stupid. If you can find it, post away -- there is no rule banning that, but I would also bet you will be hard pressed to FIND it.
Thankfully, at least here, people are more open minded (and mostly atheist/non religious-cramming-down-your-throat), so I believe you'd be hard pressed to find someone posting it just out of their own beliefs.
Your right to post, our right to call you out on it!
This! Especially the "call you out" part, because the right to hold an opinion and express it does not include a warranty against people disagreeing with you and/or poking holes in your arguments.
This particular SCOTUS decision? I doubt you will see that here, and if you do, most of the members of this comm will disagree with it.
Funny thing about communities: they seem to support what they like, and not promote propoganda from the side they disagree with.
Now, if you wanna see this comm disagree with any SCOTUS ruling, checkout the cartoons about Citizens United that get posted here, or the recent ruling on the Civil Rights Act.

No? What makes you ask that?
Will a person be jailed or fined for speaking her mind and laughing at those gay (I mean `merry and happy` by saying `gay`) couples?
No, but you might get negative reactions along the same lines as if you'd disapproved of interracial marriages or approved of women-lose-all-rights marriages.
You wouldn't get *arrested* for "speaking your mind" unless by "speaking your mind" you included harassment or threats, and even then, the most likely solution would be to let you keep speaking your mind as long as you stop intruding on the happy couples.
I`d like to see some freedom of speech in action here.
I see nothing that makes me suspect that anyone's freedom of speech is being abridged, in the slightest.
I haven't seen any good cartoons that aren't in favour, even in the "a good cartoon" sense. Meanwhile there's been a whole lot of clever and insightful *happy* cartoons.
I started writing a reply to this yesterday and got interrupted before I could finish. Even though it's mostly all been said, I still can't resist the urge to chime in, so here goes my second attempt to respond.
First of all I found this comment to be incredibly passive aggressive. If you have something to say, just say it. This is a very forthright community. Beating around the bush, dropping hints, implying something (especially in a sarcastic manner) without actually coming out and saying what you think: these are all tactics that will not go over well here.
There are no rules about what views may be expressed in this forum. We all post things that reflect our own views, and you are welcome to do the same. If you feel there's another side to an issue that is not being represented, then step up to the plate and post a cartoon about it. Nobody is stopping you, and it's really not good form to sit around complaining because nobody else is expressing a view you would like to see expressed.
Of course, if you do post, others may disagree, and just as we are all free to post, we are also free to express our disagreement with each other's posts. If you're up for a lively argument, this should not deter you from posting your views here. On the other hand, if you are looking for a "safe" forum in which to post certain kinds of views without fear of anyone disagreeing or criticizing those views, then (as you may have figured out already) this ain't the place!
