I wished Bill Murray had been more agreeable to a new movie :-( He was the hold out. But he has a good eye for scripts, so whatever was proposed must have been bad, for him to turned it down. Then Harold Ramis's death sealed any remake with the original stars (some of them said there was no reason to do it).

Which I think is a mistake...

I don't like remakes of classic films that try to replicate the original... it will likely not work and it's pointless as we can always watch the original.

However, remakes that take the core concepts and go in a new direction with it? That's fine. There's plenty of mileage in the 'Ghostbusters' concept if the writers are brave enough to go in new directions with it... the early signs are positive.

It’s interesting to watch the new Ghostbusters movie become politicized. It’s Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy (and two people I never heard of) chasing ghosts! Who doesn’t want to see that? That’s just goofy popcorn eating fun. If this movie, through no fault of its own, becomes a focal point for either misogynist rage or feminist ankle biting, audiences may stay away from it in droves.

I can’t help but see this “controversy” in the same light as the “OMG – there’s a black storm trooper!” nonsense.
