I hear you. If McCain had chosen another running mate, I might have voted for him. But Sarah Palin gives me cold chills. I wonder if he looks back and regrets his choice back then?
Hell, he was quoted as regretting who the party chose to run with him at the time. And the campaign did not go smoothly (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/06/us/politics/06mccain.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0).
I might've done the same. McCain had a choice, back then, of signaling whether he would be a thinking centrist or an irresponsible right-winger. He chose the latter route. Oh well.
As a European, I'm still grateful you guys elected Obama twice. Sure, the republicans did everything they could to stop him from accomplishing what he set out to do. And even then he still did better than anything Romney would have done.
Things aren't perfect, but I can only imagine the nightmare the world would be, if McCain or Romney had been in charge instead of Obama.
coming from socialists? please ... dun make me laugh. romney was a saint. mccain was another obama. obama was another bush. not much different from a dem and repub. at least romney was honest and ethical and moral. he was a moderate
I find it hard to tell the difference between the two groups of people who would pass around this cartoon: 1. People who voted for Obama and are now disillusioned 2. People who voted against Obama and are still petulantly trying to justify their decision. The problem I have is, each group has an interest in inflating the numbers of the OTHER group.
There was hope and change. I didn't expect him to acheive things beyond the scope of a normal politician in the US today. I was looking for was someone who wasn't batshit crazy.
NO therapy needed here. I'm not that starry-eyed that I really thought he was going to walk on water. I don't actually know anyone who was. And I'm DAMNED glad Mittens isn't President. The thought makes me want to either shudder or barf. Or both. At the same time.
I'm one of those people, sadly. I believed him when he said nothing about health insurance would change, "like the plan keep the plan," etc. It was a lie and no amount of justification (but why would you like that crappy plan???) changes the fact that I DID like the "crappy" plan and I wasn't able to keep it. He lied, plain and simple.
That was the beginning of my disillusionment with him, and not much has happened since to redeem him in my eyes.
I don't think it's quite fair to accuse Obama of having "lied." I understood the line about keeping preferred plans, etc., as being essentially about the way the implementation would work - people wouldn't be prohibited from buying whatever insurance they wanted. That health insurers then turned around and responded to the requirements by discontinuing plans that would no longer be sufficiently profitable doesn't make Obama's earlier statements lies.
I mean, what else could he have said? "My plan will impact the health insurance market in various ways, not all of which we can predict perfectly in advance. While I'd like to say that it won't change your current arrangements, the law won't ultimately control how health insurers or doctors actually respond to it, so there is an element of uncertainty there. But you're all smart people. I'm sure you don't need me to spell it out for you."
