I think they're being overly cautious after they gunned down that young mother who apparently took a wrong turn into the White House and panicked.

Or maybe they're just getting really sloppy. The story just broke that when that guy shot at the White House a while back, it took four days for the Secret Service to admit he had hit and damaged the building. Junior agents knew it right away, but senior agents apparently tried to cover it up. They never would have caught him if he hadn't wrecked his car a few blocks away and left the rifle in it.
