Some of that tragedy is why I feel some sympathy for the Kurds. You might be right about Turkey, but I don't really have any feel for them as a threat here.
I guess US is the only country in the world that can and will react. Where is Europe? Where is all these richest and happiest countries in the world, like Norway, Sweden, Swiss, Denmark? Why we should pay for it?
NEWPORT, Wales — President Obama escalated the American response to the marauding Islamic State in Iraq and Syria on Friday, recruiting at least nine allies to help crush the organization and offering the outlines of a coordinated military strategy that echoes the war on terror developed by his predecessor, George W. Bush, more than a decade ago.

The former head of NATO said in a recent interview that most EU countries can't ante up the 3 (?) percent they're agreed to pay to fund the military arm of NATO, so your question is extremely pertinent. He also mentioned he doubt NATO could get a single brigade (20,000) mobilized in the event of Russia moving on some other country (e.g. the Baltic members of NATO)
USA can react at that situation with kurds, but can't REALLY helps. Want to know why? The unique reason why USA reacts is Kirkuk (and it's oil). the UNIQUE and NOW USEFUL for kurds reason.
As advantage.. Probably. But today's day tells us - think for the future, for saving LIVES , not for the oil.. (I mean multiple genocides for example)..

There is truth to what you seem to be asserting, however the Kurds can use this to their advantage.
