At least with the Kurds, I think we've finally gotten a little smart in the region.

Some of that tragedy is why I feel some sympathy for the Kurds. You might be right about Turkey, but I don't really have any feel for them as a threat here.

No we'll probably string them along once again with insinuations and drop them when we don't need them anymore, again.

I guess US is the only country in the world that can and will react. Where is Europe? Where is all these richest and happiest countries in the world, like Norway, Sweden, Swiss, Denmark? Why we should pay for it?

Obama is definitely working on a coalition.

~ ~ ~

NEWPORT, Wales — President Obama escalated the American response to the marauding Islamic State in Iraq and Syria on Friday, recruiting at least nine allies to help crush the organization and offering the outlines of a coordinated military strategy that echoes the war on terror developed by his predecessor, George W. Bush, more than a decade ago.

That's Tony Abbott in the corner. He has a horrendous budget at home to distract people from, so he's all keen for war.

The former head of NATO said in a recent interview that most EU countries can't ante up the 3 (?) percent they're agreed to pay to fund the military arm of NATO, so your question is extremely pertinent. He also mentioned he doubt NATO could get a single brigade (20,000) mobilized in the event of Russia moving on some other country (e.g. the Baltic members of NATO)

Team NATO needs to open up their checkbooks to stop big bear making big trouble.

Maybe it's just a honest admission that West Europe and USA will never agree to bleed for Estonia or some such other limitrophe state?

Well, I think it's more because no one wants to open their check book.

They're rich and happy in large part because they're not constantly meddling in other people's wars.

Why isn't the private military industry taking care of it?

It's not gonna happen, because there will be no political gain.
I think Napoleon once said "a leader is a dealer of hope".

USA can react at that situation with kurds, but can't REALLY helps. Want to know why? The unique reason why USA reacts is Kirkuk (and it's oil). the UNIQUE and NOW USEFUL for kurds reason.

As advantage.. Probably.
But today's day tells us - think for the future, for saving LIVES , not for the oil.. (I mean multiple genocides for example)..
