Unserious answer its not too soon, its been so long since the last Turtles movie. 90s turtles rule though, none of this Michael Bay Shrek shit.

Serious answer: no. While any building blowing up may be upsetting to 9/11 survivors, NY and other cities have been destroyed many times onscreen since then and Hollywood would go out of business if they didn't. That building doesn't even look like the WTC.

As a NYC resident, I agree.

The only thing that made me connect the dots between "action movie where building blows up" and the potentially offensive part of it, was the release date. If it was released Aug 10th, I'd probably still be looking at it going: why, what's wrong with it????

Furthermore, did they really refrain from putting Megan Fox's boobs on the cover?

Good job Hollywood execs!

When I first saw this post, I just thought you were indulging your nerdy side.
Even with the 'September 11' there and the picture of falling from the building,
I didn't make any connections to 9/11.

So maybe it is okay. Over a decade ago.

Me, either. All I saw were those damned turtles, to which I say no, there is no appropriate time for turtles.

I'm old, you see.

That could be it. I just saw kid stuff and thought 'oh, brother!'
and moved on.

Don't worry, turtles live to your age and beyond. It should be fine.

You might be old, but c'mon, everybody loves pizza. And aside from fighting for good and justice, TMNT was about love of pizza.

Yup, totally their catchphrase.

That makes the post even more pointless, since Australians aren't necessarily going to make the connection. But I can see that your delicate sensibilities are offended, so I suggest you simply clutch your pearls and fan yourself.

Or a legit concern that *recent* tragedies might not be the best material for comedy. The wounds would be too fresh.

You are a very bad comedian.

That and TMNT was originally written as satire of the excesses of action comics in the early 80s.

A week/day earlier/later, that's all it would have taken.

I think it will always be too soon to do something like this on 9/11. Not because *I* think it's too soon (which I don't think it is) but just because someone is going to pick up on it and mud will stick to your brand.

Oh, it's here. I guess that's a little different.

However, the earliest school holidays start is the following week, it could've been delayed.

When does school start for y'all? For us, as I recall, it was early Sept, if the release date is before kids return to school, seems like it'd make sense.

The September holidays (between terms 3 and 4) are the last two weeks of September, so this is a school holiday release, but it's the weekend before. My only thought is "we must release on a Friday and we must have it out the week before the holidays". Our big break is late December-Late Jan/Start of Feb, with three two week breaks through the year (Easter, Winter, Spring).

Way too soon. TMNT is one movie series that did not need a reboot.

I would have agreed with you, but I must be honest, I kinda liked the Star Trek reboot.

That said, Shatner is still the better Kirk, and Nimoy the better Spock, but it has made me less inherently oppositional to reboots.

I liked the Star Trek reboot, too, but then I didn't have special affection for the original movies like I do with TMNT.

I generally don't get into reboots or big franchises, though. I never even considered seeing the Andrew Garfield Spider-Man movies. I've only seen parts of the Transformers movies. Though I did like the Dark Knight Batman reboot.
