Unserious answer its not too soon, its been so long since the last Turtles movie. 90s turtles rule though, none of this Michael Bay Shrek shit.
Serious answer: no. While any building blowing up may be upsetting to 9/11 survivors, NY and other cities have been destroyed many times onscreen since then and Hollywood would go out of business if they didn't. That building doesn't even look like the WTC.
The only thing that made me connect the dots between "action movie where building blows up" and the potentially offensive part of it, was the release date. If it was released Aug 10th, I'd probably still be looking at it going: why, what's wrong with it????
When I first saw this post, I just thought you were indulging your nerdy side. Even with the 'September 11' there and the picture of falling from the building, I didn't make any connections to 9/11.
That makes the post even more pointless, since Australians aren't necessarily going to make the connection. But I can see that your delicate sensibilities are offended, so I suggest you simply clutch your pearls and fan yourself.
A week/day earlier/later, that's all it would have taken.
I think it will always be too soon to do something like this on 9/11. Not because *I* think it's too soon (which I don't think it is) but just because someone is going to pick up on it and mud will stick to your brand.
When does school start for y'all? For us, as I recall, it was early Sept, if the release date is before kids return to school, seems like it'd make sense.
The September holidays (between terms 3 and 4) are the last two weeks of September, so this is a school holiday release, but it's the weekend before. My only thought is "we must release on a Friday and we must have it out the week before the holidays". Our big break is late December-Late Jan/Start of Feb, with three two week breaks through the year (Easter, Winter, Spring).
I liked the Star Trek reboot, too, but then I didn't have special affection for the original movies like I do with TMNT.
I generally don't get into reboots or big franchises, though. I never even considered seeing the Andrew Garfield Spider-Man movies. I've only seen parts of the Transformers movies. Though I did like the Dark Knight Batman reboot.

So maybe it is okay. Over a decade ago.
