Oh, there's a war all right; it's just not "on women" any more than it is by women. A plurality (if not majority) of American women now hold conservative views on issues like reproductive rights. But conservative women rarely aspire to political office, so they elect men to carry out their agenda. It is still the women's agenda. The rhetoric about the sex of the elected representatives is utterly stupid.
Exactly. And both sides employ utterly stupid rhetoric that assumes the fundamental disagreements are already settled instead of addressing them and trying to sway opinions.
Go ahead and show me the poll that shows even a plurality of American women disagree with the idea of equal pay for equal work. I wanna see that. Cause I don't buy it for a second.
What would that prove? The debate is not about whether women deserve equal pay for equal work. The debate is whether they get equal pay for equal work. And the only methodologically sound research on the subject (that of June O'Neill) says they already do, and have for decades.
What would that prove? Perhaps that you knew what you were talking about? Obviously you don't, so we're none of us expecting you to actually provide evidence to support your idiotic claim.
Read it and weep. (http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/314640/abortion-and-gender-gap-numbers-ramesh-ponnuru) The margin among women is very thin, and some polls show it going the other way by one or two percentage points. But there is no question that "pro-choice" women are losing ground to "pro-life" women.
Not worried. And a year later: Abortion fights risk worsening GOP's gender gap (http://www.nbcnews.com/news/other/abortion-fights-risk-worsening-gops-gender-gap-f6C10625811)
A plurality (if not majority) of American women now hold conservative views on issues like reproductive rights.
Gonna need a source cited here. I'm not disagreeing outright, but the view that conservative women are driving policy from the back seat is a bit of a stretch that threatens to violate the Occam's Razor law.
On The Media did a piece on the increasing polarization of opinion recently. They noted that 30 years ago it would not have been, but that's because there were liberal Republicans and very, very conservative Dems. Today, the political leaders have tightened the definitions of what it means to be a part of either party (especially the GOP).
Therefore, the former Southern Conservative wing of the Democratic Party—where you find the most ardent anti-choice voices—have moved to the GOP or gotten out of politics altogether.
So, what's left for people who are against socialism and big government but are for personal rights and freedoms? I know that voting for any third party in US is an utterly disappointing exercise.
Those would nominally be known as libertarians (how I identify), meaning they would theoretically support the personal rights Democrats half the time and the fiscal/anti-big government Republicans half the time, but most American "libertarians" are just Republicans in sheeps' clothing so they can seem reasonable.
