Found on another community, but I thought it followed the current theme started here nicely.

Is the problem that most folks have that they don't see "sides"? That "the enemy" has permeated most societies, and rooting them out and bringing a final end to fighting this threat seems impossible? Just asking...

edit: I don't think it's an impossible fight btw.

OUCH!!!

The message here isn't really "haha" funny, but it kinda gets you in the gut. What I do find "haha" funny is the 'tap tap tappity tap tap tap'. Reminds me of Eric Cartman :)

Hmm? I see a bunch of sides to everything. What is making people uncomfortable is not that we have captured terrorists and have them in prison is that we don't know if they are terrorist or not because we have not had much transpancy in the investigation. No one argues that political fanaticism is a crime, it's just there are a lot of people who want to make sure we got the right criminals.

Of course, it is difficult to have an investigation of this size in the public domain and with this political climate. It's all out a very tricky dilema. How do you keep people from using coded messages, while at the same time ensuring they are the ones you are actually looking for? What if the real villains are free and we just happen to have captured everyone who didn't get out the fighting zone quickly enough? In short since when can't males between the age of 15-30 be civilians as well as military combatants? Isn't this assumption a bit of a generalization?? We just don't know enough....

I know this is a generalization. But I personally feel that if anyone wanted to blow themselves up, they would only do it for a cause that they really truly believed in. Therefore, instead of going after the people specifically (although they must be dealt with), we need to be focusing on eliminating the motivation for such an event to happen.

I personally feel that the United States torturing Muslim imprisoners only fuels that motivation, and that we need to be the "bigger person" and not resort to such tactics to win over the Muslim world. call me an optimist/idealist, but I believe we can actually make these cultures not hate us. I believe that it would take an entire retooling of our foreign relations, but thats a different story.

There's plenty to hate about plenty of Muslim countries, too.

Hate doesn't matter all that much if it isn't seen as beneficial to act on it.

Hippie. I think if dictatorships could be won over with love and flowers it would have happened by now.

During the Crusades, what was the motivation for Christians killing Muslims for hundreds of years? Was it that they felt the Muslims were oppressing them?

I see sides. I see one side composed of nutters, and another side composed of nutters who are in charge of a nation with nukes.

I also see my government doing what the nutters with the nukes tell them too. Then again, that's not a big surprise, since they don't seem to have made a clever decision since... well, ever.

Finally, I see a lot of other people sat around like me going, "what the fuck do we do about all these nutters?". Since there doesn't seem to be any good answer, they seem to be divided between fairly ineffectual resistance to nutters passing laws, and wishing they were religious so they'd have something to pray to.

Right now, it'd be nice if there was a side for me. Unfortunately, society seems to be so trained to think in Manichean terms involving only two sides that the creation of a third side seems unlikely.
