I got about 2 minutes into Dennis Miller's new 180 degrees special. He opened with a bit about Jerry Brown. Which wasn't funny nor did it need to be since he was playing to a conservative audience that booed when the Governor's name was said. Even Dennis said this was too easy - meaning he doesn't need to be funny, he just needs to name things conservatives hate without really knowing why.

I'm sure the bit about Obamacare isn't working would be equally side-splitting.

I recorded it on DVR.

You're lowering my expectations!!

I'll have to try to remember. I haven't even heard of that show.
But I'm still going to give Dennis a shot, if only for
nostalgic sake. He was such a cool guy, when we were young.

Brown polled recently extremely high numbers (http://blogs.kqed.org/newsfix/2014/04/23/poll-jerry-brown-draws-california-republican-votes), even with Californian Republicans. Meanwhile Lex Luthor, er Republican gubernatorial candidate Neel Kashkari is way behind. So WTF is Dennis Miller droning on about?

Meh, I didn't find him funny when he was a liberal, and I still don't find him funny.

"the California Democrats have balanced budgets, are dealing with the deficit"
Really? The first is smoke and mirrors and the second won't happen even if they get the tax increases they want.
But I will say, except for the train, I've been "content" with "moonbeam" this time :)
For the record, I'm leaning towards leaving the Governor box unchecked.(we complete the arrows, but you know what I mean)

Yes, but this would mean it had *decreased*. <1% of the population, <10% of the votes cast in a joke subcontest election.

The point is just because somebody got high numbers, doesn't mean he's good. In case you don't know about Yee, he is in jail for corruption and running arms deals operations.

In a state with a population of 38,000,000, you think 300,000 is a high number?

Date: 2014-06-16 03:44 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] madam-shapo.livejournal.com
More than 287,000 votes were cast for Yee, about 10 percent of the total. 10% is pretty high number.

0.75% of the *population*. 9.5% *of the votes cast* (http://vote.sos.ca.gov/returns/secretary-of-state/)

Of course, it's an undercard race with a ton of options. It's not surprising there's a fair bit of "vote at random" or "vote on name recognition" or even "don't know that a candidate dropped out".

Wait, wait. I point out that you were right and he was wrong, so you're *changing your position*?

Being correct, and having the facts on your side, is not a place you're willing to be? Your ideology requires you to remain associatively pure and politically correct to the point where you'll abandon reality simply because reality has The Enemy in it?

From: [identity profile] madam-shapo.livejournal.com
What ideology? He is, at least, as "liberal" as you are. Being correct isn't most important thing, and I have no urge to be correct. I don't consider you an enemy, I just don't like you.

From: [identity profile] theweaselking.livejournal.com
What ideology?

Your aggressively anti-fact anti-reality one, of course. The one where you think "debating" and "discussing" obvious falsehoods as if they were true is a better use of time than disproving and then ignoring them. The one where you're willing to abandon facts and disavow the real world, to prevent someone who cares about REAL THINGS from being on your side if you dislike them personally.

For, I will point out, the "crime" of pointing out where ELSE you've abandoned facts and disavowed reality.

I have no urge to be correct.

That is abundantly clear in every comment you make.

This why I don't like you. You are so eager to prove you are correct, that you totally loose the perspective. I bet, you don't get too many dates, long-term ones, unless you're married, then forget it.
And this was first time I was willing to abandon the facts, trust me.

"You like facts so much that you don't like facts!", said by someone who has never been able to provide a factual contradiction to anything I have said.

This may not be a winning strategy for you. Without examples, it's certainly an unconvincing one.

Also: English, "lose" is the word you want. Yes, "lose" and "loose" have the OPPOSITE pronunciations and meanings that you would expect. This is because English is idiosyncratic.

this was first time I was willing to abandon the facts,

Your record suggests that this statement is YET ANOTHER instance of you abandoning facts. This time it's ironic, at least? Unintentional, but funny?

trust me.

It's not so much "trust" as "expect".

Thanks for English lesson.
Where are your examples? You certainly accuse people, not only me, of things that you think they might be thinking.
Funny? You seldom (stretch?) recognize funny. If you did, you wouldn't start this big polemics over a joke. The funniest part - I know what you are going to say.

I did not know this. Thanks!

(This will not help the generic "he's Eastern, call him BORIS" factor, but it's really interesting.)

Does "Vladimir" have a specific meaning, versus "Vladislav"?

“Vladimir” means “a world ruler”, the name “Vladislav” means “a glorious ruler”. I guess, these are the names of ancient slavic princes who adopted Christianity, hence such majestic meanings.

By the way, Boris is a slavic name too. It is a variant of the name Borislav which means “a fighter for glory”. The diminutive is “Borya”.

upd. the name Boris is popular among jewish people, but they use it in place of Baruch which is “Blessed” in Hebrew.
