Has anyone wondered if any of the money spent on all these car magnets actually goes to support the cause they are supposed to represent? For example, does the money spent on a breast cancer awareness car magnet actually go to breast cancer survivors or breast cancer research?

That's a good point. Someone might be getting rich off people's 'support' of the troops.

(I don't know for sure, one way or the other, obviously.)

depends on where you buy them... kinda like those Livestrong bracelets.. everyone makes them now, you can even get them at gas stations that have words such as "hope" and "hottie" on them.

you can get the breast cancer ribbon magnets AND bracelets here:
http://www.thebreastcancersite.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/CTDSites.woa/297/wo/oy6000pT100MW20041/1.23.0.1.0.0.0.CustomContentActiveImageDisplayComponent.0.0.0

and the proceeds actually do go to a legitimate source. (some more than others...)

yeah, those random wristbands that say crap like '2 cool 4 u' and 'music rules' and 'rockstar' and especially 'hottie' made me so mad. there's no point to them besides capitalizing off a fad that while, yes, it was a fad, it had a good meaning behind it. the original livestrong bracelets and the few that came out afterwards actually supported causes like cancer research, breast cancer, AIDS, poverty, etc. and the money went to legitimate foundations for it. but someone decided WHOA! we can make the same kinds of bracelets that people are so keen to wear, but with empty phrases on them declaring how cool a person is! GENIUS! i just feel that is completely demeans the original ones. i've been wearing my livestrong bracelet consistently for over a year (in fact the only time i've taken it off was when i was in uniform for marching band last fall, because we can't wear any kind of jewelry while performing :) ). i have a whole slew of relatives who died of, are currently battling, or have survived cancer, and i wear it as a show of support for them. but people who run around wearing some random meaningless one as a fashion trend just cause they saw matt damon on TV with one take away from what the original message and causes were.

Well there are plenty of tanks and LAV's to put them on, but having the troops putting a "Support the Troops" magnet on their vehicles seems a bit self aggrandizing does it not? :)

Unless they mean body armour... but that's just silly. It wouldn't stick anyway.

True, since kevlar is a fiber material and not "armor" as most people seem to think it is. Unless you're a medieval knight or a viking, you probably won't be wearing much metal armor into battle.

Besides, even in a wartime situation, officers eager for a promotion would still be dicks and write up one of his troops for wearing unauthorized insignias on their uniform.
