First, there's the Baconwave, that lets one microwave bacon but now we're shaping containers for other high-fat foods out of bacon itself. All those nitrates can't be good

American consumer, stop hitting yourself!

Maybe I'm just mad because no one got me a Wax Vac this year.

I'm more concerned at the amount of shit that gets pushed as gluten free=healthy these days rather than worrying over people slapping bacon on t-shirts. There's a lot of self diagnosing going on my favorite being the friend that decided to try the diet change without the allergy testing because she "felt sick a lot". She didn't have a wheat allergy, she was pregnant. The regulation is probably out of control too since the friend that has actually been tested for the allergy will get sick from products labelled as gluten free. Obviously this is all Ancedotal but I swear if I hear one more person suggest that I should go GF or paleo I will pop.

I got a glow pet seal from a coworker this year, it is AMAZING!

Paleo is not bad, it's far healthier than most diets, but unrealistic in the modern world. Come to that, it's an unrealistic portrayal of the paleolithic diet, because modern humans have affordable and abundant access to fresh red meat without having to spend days tracking it or chasing it down with stone-tipped spears.

I agree that the GF thing is going too far, especially when proponents use the 'opposite extreme' as a legitimate argument. "If I don't eat completely GF everything, I'll be stuffing my face with cheesy bread knots 24/7!"

Actually I could kind of go for a cheesy bread knot right now.

I've been tracing my family tree, and lo and behold I have found plenty of people who lived well into their seventies and eighties even back when the average life span was forties or fifties. On both sides of the family, along all branches. Of course, people tended to get more exercise back then in the form of manual labor (one great-grandpa was a porter, another worked in a stone quarry). But all I can think of is, it's not the bacon grease or the red meat or the wheat gluten. It's the hormones and the preservatives and the chemicals and coloring and stabilizers. Sure, they're all supposedly safe, but there's no way to test every combination in every amount.

I bet that going field-to-table and as organic as practically possible across the board would improve people's health way more than almost anything else (and quite possibly cut down on a lot of allergy problems, too)

There is also the child mortality rate, bringing down average lifespans. Folks tend to forget how high infant mortality was pre modern medicine, and how high maternal mortality was for that matter.

If bacon is a sin, we are sinners all!

I wouldn't use it as a bowl, though. I'd wear it as a little crispy hat. Maybe try to sculpt some peaks on the sides like a sailor's hat.

Bacon bowl? What, the underside of a goddamn muffin tin isn't good enough for you?

That's what I thought. And then I thought, "Unitensil! Alton Brown would be disappoint"
