Reagan was showing symptoms that something was amiss immediately after the near assassination attempt. That's only come out in the last few years, and his son Ron, Jr. had written that something was clearly wrong with his father in the first term.
I remember hearing that the assassination attempt was harder on his physical well-being than we were led to believe, but I did not know that it also affected his mental health. Notwithstanding the assassination, attempt, that is a fascinating article. I did not know it was that bad. I remember catching his speech at Bush's convention to follow Reagan into the White House, and he still seemed able to give a good performance.
