This reminds me of the irony of the diana ross version and when she sang it and how it was received on the televisions across america at the time.

I have no recollection of this controversy. At first, I was thinking
she changed it to "Black Christmas", but I guess that ain't it.

She got it from all sides. There were pissed off rednecks and pissed off blacks. It stirred it a bit.

Now granted I was not watching TV in '65, but man I really don't remember any "flap" . The biggest deal I remember was Dylan going electric, and that was earlier in the year. Don't misunderstand, I believe you, but it seems to it must have been mountains out of mole hills, I mean "White Christmas" referred to SNOW for pete's sake...

(oh and Mr Banks isn't for you, but for the idea that people would think it "odd" for a black person to sing about snow)
