And I stumbled upon that while searching for Bill Cosby Santa. The internet is a dark, dark place.

My father's favorite character - he now watches South Park on Christmas just for that episode.

I'm more of a Christmas Critters blood orgy guy myself but maybe that's too much information.

I don't think black folks were allowed to use white people cards back then, though

It was a reference to segregation.

First, I've got to say, those cards are beautiful. I love the artistic style.

What makes the whole thing even more crazy is that Santa, while based on ancient traditions, really didn't exist in his modern incarnation before, maybe, the mid 1800s. and that idea certainly wasn't a widespread part of Christmas celebrations until at least the early 20th century. So these are cards from maybe a couple decades into the tradition, meaning they really are foundational, and every bit as legitimate as the "Coca-Cola Santa" that's become such a standard depiction (and honestly, they'd still be legitimate even if not so early, but that proximity to the point of origin lends them that extra "kick.") Santa has been displayed as many things to many different people for as long as he's been around, and if we're talking about Meagan Kelly, and people speaking in ignorance about the actual natures of things being described... but I repeat myself.
