I guess a lifetime of having servants will do that to you.

I'd say we can't fault you for making such a mistake, but we can, and we will.

I'd hate to see what happens when his paid buttwiper calls in sick.

Clearly Mitt underperformed the ironing fundamentals.
Regardless, if you look at the long-term trend, it becomes patently obvious to anyone with a shred of objectivity that he was always a loser.

That's a good way to ruin a suit jacket. He could have at least put a damp washcloth or something over the area before ironing. I mean, best to actually send it out to be done professionally, but if he's in a rush (and apparently so much of a rush that he needs to touch it up while wearing it,) at least don't ruin the jacket.

I was certain he was nominated so the Republicans could throw the election and let a Democrat take credit for the economic depression the US has entered; but when I saw how many people actually voted for him...

Trust me, the GOP wanted to win so they could repeal the ACA and get back to riding the gravy train. They were sure that a successful white guy with a luxuriant head of hair would win. It simply turned out that Mitt had the charisma of a robot and no real ideas.

Such a fascinating insight into the way you think about elections.

I mean, putting aside the tired reiteration of the whole, "Romney lost because he didn't have as good a ground game as Obama," line. I mean, that just smacks of plain-ol' pointless-revisionism-for-revisionism's-sake. We're all quite familiar with it.

No - what I'm interested in here is how you roll your eyes at thinking this guy could win an election, to say nothing of, well - running the United States government. Put another way, I don't know why the heading of this post isn't, "To think I thought this was a man who could run the country." The fact that that doesn't even occur to you (apparently) - or at least the fact that it's not the more relevant reflection vis-a-vis the gif - it leads one to question whether politics is ever about anything other than winning, for you - about overpowering and outmaneuvering an "opposition," just because.

I think it was fairly clear, from the way that so many rising stars of the establishment stayed the heck away from the primary circus, that 2012 was basically conceded by the GOP. Romney was stupid enough to go for it, and the establishment was happy to let him get it out of his system; Ryan was also able to get some experience under his belt. Now that Romney's done, the establishment can focus on Christie's ascendance and figuring out how to contain the Paul/Cruz tea party tour/fabulous implosion.

I don't think it was anything like "letting a Democrat take credit for the economic depression." I mean, why? Do you think the GOP was expecting the next four years to be economic misery, leading to a landslide victory in 2016? I don't see why the GOP would pursue such a strategy, let alone think it could work out that way.
