Well, 36% of the world population is not religious which is about 2.5 billion. China may be higher than reported in the figures I saw though. The report gave 50% but it could be much higher. That technically makes irreligious the largest population, above the 2.1 billion christians.

Actually I don't think they are. Jesus is a prophet in Islam. Just like christians easily acknowledge christianity an offshoot of Judaism. It's pretty much the same. Bro came to reform the church and clarify the previous guys.

It kind of depends on what one's definition of Christian is. If it is, "one who believes in Jesus and his teachings" then Islam might be considered an offshoot of Christianity since they do count Jesus as a prophet. But if one's definition is, "believes Jesus was the Son of God and Savior from sin" then one may disagree with the idea.

In the standard that every religion redefines the previous religion to now be about "OUR" guy, Islam branches off Christianity. Muslims don't believe Jesus to be the sole prophet. Muslims believe in the immaculate conception. They believe that Jesus could do miracles, but they don't believe that Jesus is equal to god, as they are monotheists.
