I keed. Other than smokers in restaurants because it kills my ability to taste food, I'm fine with it. Government doesn't need to regulate drink sizes or harass smokers. I'd really like to see NYC enforce an end to Stop 'N Frisk.

I never know if people are kidding or not. People get absolutely crazed when they talk about smoking.

Smoking kills the smoker's ability to taste food too. When I quit I go through a period of regaining my sense of taste and smell. It sucks because everything smells horrible and tastes even worse. It's one of the hardest parts of quitting for me.

It's weird how awful everything and everyone smells. Quitting messes with the foods you eat too. I quit in July and I'm I'm past that point now. Now I'm dealing with the lack of nicotine/monster weight gain now. I vape 0mg and I'm thinking about going back on the nicotine because the weight gain just isn't worth it. The last time I quit I started again because of weight gain.

As a non-smoker, I think the smoking ban (no smoking in bars or restaurants) is fantastic. It's just first thing in the AM, seeing those ads with people suffering from advanced emphysema or lung cancer makes my stomach flip. But I suppose it works, smoking and incidences of lung disease related to smoking are down. I'm also sure the 11.00 price for a pack of ciggies has had an impact too.

I don't smoke anymore, but I object to the way that the bans were implemented and the way that smokers are being treated.

I was just curious about what idiocy Bloomberg was pulling now. His 'public health' crusade is not based in facts anymore. It's based on his personal preferences.

The public supports the smoking bans, which are state wide now in New York.

And the health statistics are showing improvement. That's a good thing, I think.

It's a lot more complicated than you think. But, anti-smokers will never look at the other side of the issue and they don't have to anymore.

The improved statistics make it pretty uncomplicated for me. And this isn't about not smoking in your own home, or outside in a park. The mayor made it about a health and safety safety issue for the non-smoker workers in those establishments. And I agree completely. And as patron in those places, I am reminded constantly when I visit places out of state that don't have those laws in effect. *waves smoke away* :P

We've got the toughest laws, highest prices and lowest rates of smoking in the world (there's now more pot smokers than daily tobacco smokers). It's getting banned in parks in different councils now, and on the beach. Pretty soon smoking in public will be illegal and it looks like it will be illegal to buy tobacco if you we're born after 2000, regardless of age. This is all assu,ing the trans pacific partnership doesn't go through, because the tobacco companies being able to challenge our sovereignty is at the core of that.

I think some localities have laws about smoking in a car with children. I can see that being a good thing too. Sure if you want to smoke yourself into a coffin, that's fine. And cigarette smoke one of those few items you can nail Libertarians on too ("as long as what I do does no harm to anyone else, then ....").

In Kansas we have a state wide ban on smoking indoors, with the exception of adult only establishments that requested a permit to have a waiver on it, such as Veterans groups, and in Wichita one or two smoking restaurants.

The Smokers swore it would kill business, and instead, the businesses thrived. Enough so that the VFW at least is now considering going nonsmoking inside their post to attract younger Vets.

When these first came out, some left wing outfit, I forget which, accused the Republicans of putting these out as spoofs, and also accused them of slut shaming and such because of the safe sex/birth control angle.
