Are you adding them through LJ's thing, or typing the HTML yourself?

I ask because if you're typing it yourself, you need to click onto the 'html' tab, instead of typing it into the WYSIWYG box.

I find videos don't embed unless I use LJ's thing.

I find most markups don't work unless, or occasionally even when, I use LJ's thing. It's like they're trying to discourage the use of hand-typed html.
