Democracy is so inherently unjust it's ridiculous. That every person regardless of intellect, education, or "skin in the game" should have the right to vote or a vote which carries the same weight is absurd.
I would make it such that no one who receives even 1 cent in direct payments from government -- government employees, contractors, bailout recipients, welfare recipients, etc. -- would be eligible to vote. And anyone who remained would have to pay a poll tax. In other words, only people who contributed to but received no monetary compensation from government at any level would have the right to vote. That is fairer than what we have now.
I know you didn't write community. That is the whole point. You are dismissing that these people do contribute to our community and deserve a voice too.
And mass murdering is a bit of a stretch. Unless you think all heads-of-state that are in office during times of war are mass murderers, in which case, sure, the glove fits. Otherwise I am curious what you use to define a mass murderer.
So, by your logic, the wealthy should be denied the vote, since they have been the multiple recipients of drastic tax rollbacks since 1973. The top tax bracket used to be 91%; it's now about 30% (IIRC), and the bracket itself hasn't crept up significantly.
Do stockholders of a company that get govt bailout money? ie. if I own 50 stocks of a bank, and that bank gets bailout money, am I deprived of my vote? 500 stocks? 5000? Where's the line?
Seniors are out of the question, cause of social security, right? Military folks are all deprived of the vote, cause, well, that's obvious.
Any college student who got any govt aid to pay the outrageously high cost of college? If you're an incumbent, you cannot vote for yourself. Firefighters, cops, garbage-men, deprived of the vote. The poor are obviously out of the system if they get any form of govt assistance to stop them from, ya know, DYING in the streets.
Who the FUCK is left to vote? Nobody with children--cause there's a child tax credit.....
Not only is your system stupid in principle, it's entirely unrealistic; even if we wanted to implement such a thing [which we don't] it is simply entirely impossible to do such a thing.

Date: 2013-07-04 07:03 pm (UTC)That's the benefit of a democracy; crazies get to voice their opinion. We simply don't need to listen to you.

Date: 2013-07-04 04:14 pm (UTC)The alternative is allowing the current government to decide who gets to vote in the next government.
Universal Suffrage helps avoid that problem.
