You are presuming to know a lot of what is in her heart, aren't you?

They were "just people" in a society that was the poster child for vulnerability to fascism.

I believe this woman's stance is enabling injustice. I can differentiate between injustice and genocide.

As I recall it's a cartoon man and woman holding hands. Not quite the "men's room," "women's room" symbol ones, but close. I barely bothered to remember though, ha ha. I was just reading an article somewhere comparing the two userpics' popularity.

As much as I see your point, I have to agree with the point made above. They really were "just people," but often times, people get carried away. Which is why it is so important to remember that in history, when people get carried away with injustice, it often ends in genocide.

Well, glad to know that I also have clearance to assume that everyone on the wrong side of gay marriage would happily have packed a picnic lunch for a lynching.

The Archdiocese of SF made a Facebook icon using the division sign for traditional marriage or something.

I don't believe in accusing people of the absolute worst consequences of a belief when I have no evidence in front of me that they would passively stand aside and let it happen or, worse, cheer it on.

I do believe in opposing her belief via legislation and education -- which has been, interestingly enough, working at a far faster clip on gay marriage than I ever imagined.

I agree. Liberals are so extreme; they need to take a chill pill.

Second, the word "everyone" is not to be found in any of my comments.

I don't believe that is an honest representation of your words:

Because it was ignorant twits like her who voted the Nazis into power. It was ignorant twits like her who made picnic lunches for lynchings in the 50's and 60's. It is ignorant twits like her who threaten rape victims because they have the hots for their football player rapists.

The implication that she herself would be one of those people is quite clear.

Why are you feeling such an urgent need to defend ignorant bigots?

I am not defending her. I have said she is wrong. I have said her views ought to be opposed. Failing to appreciate linking her views to the oncoming rush of genocidal fascism is not defense.

What you are missing is that her facebook "friend" didn't accuse her of anything

Failing to see obviously implied meanings is the sort of thing I've come to expect from arguments, but it is almost always selective and self-serving. The accusation is plainly obvious.

likely end result
^^^^^^^

And there's no accusation there?

but it takes a lot of voltage

Oddly enough, a LOT of change on this issue has come in the past decade without that level of voltage. It's almost as if honest and humane arguments have made a lot of progress in a time span nobody could have imagined not very long ago.

I saw one that was the equal sign with a line over it- the "unequal sign."

Oh, I don't believe in it ether, but the worst consequence should also be considered. If it's happened before (and it's happened countless times in history) then it can happen again.

Legislation aside (because people will more than likely do what they want, no matter what the law says), education is one of the best combats to ignorance and bigotry there is. That, and the people who refuse to change their mind dying out. It takes a while, but purging works better than almost anything, so long as the ignorant ideas aren't passed down successfully.

lol @ all the hand-wringing in this post. A picture of 1940s fascists might "offend" a 21st-century neo-fascist? Boo hoo.
