Christians spoof the Jesus/Horus mythology overlap.

Well, no one said honest Abe ever walked on water and raised the dead back to life, and he only meant to save the Union and did.

Ha! I love this macro and anything that mocks what Bart Ehrman calls "The Jesus mythicist movement."

I've got to admit I'm tempted to side with the mythicists A TINY BIT - insofar as I do agree that their "argument from silence" points are good ones. But even as an atheist, I'm not about to say that a lack of extra-textual evidence doesn't mean that there wasn't a guy the whole thing was based on.

Plus, I can't really get behind the syncretism stuff. It's the same "two people cannot have had similar ideas at the same time" idea that leads to nonsense like the Solutrean hypothesis and the underlying racism of "Ancient Aliens."

Now I want to take a picture of Giorgio Tsoukalos and re-caption it: "I'm not saying it was Horus... but it was Horus."

Christopher Hitchens wasn't a mythicist, I was surprised to learn.

Neat! I didn't know that.

The problem is they're really two different things, and this picture seems awfully confused because whomever made it didn't seem to realize that.

I've come to have a favourable impression of the Jesus myth theory, whilst previously I thought that a historical Jesus was the obvious explanation for the biblical stories.

Either way, the whole Jesus/Horus is silly, along with the attempts to find an origin in paganism for very modern Christian traditions.

Hey, I was born on February 12th! Does that make me Mithras too?
