Therefore we shouldn't try, because we're not trying to reduce any of the other causes, obviously.

Sure "used" in violent crimes is one thing, but what's the Killing Average for baseball bats?

Ah, intentionally misleading scare graphics.

Sure, go for it. If you're going to intentionally miss the trees for the forest then yes, you should live in a world where baseball bats are regulated.

Didn't someone else post this and it turned out to be inaccurate? Or was it a different one?

Also IGNORED are accidental firearm deaths and suicides which outnumber homicides.

Clearly, we need to make mistakes illegal.

Remember: we can't ever do anything about ANYTHING unless it's the top of a list. Non-violent deaths outnumber deaths by violence! Oh well, we can't do anything about violence then. Might as well throw up our hands and ignore it.

So, I guess this means conservatives have to stop complaining about government overreach and apparent loss of "freedoms". After all, according to "statistics", lots of other countries have it much worse in terms of levels of "freedom". We need to deal with THOSE first! We have charts and everything to prove it!

Or, we could just point out that your chart is just plain wrong, the data is complete hogwash, and it was apparently put together by folks who either are woefully undereducated on the actual statistics on these issues, or who must think lying is a good way to score political points.

But other people upthread already did that.

I like my charts with dramatic emphasis and snark. Oh wait, no... I meant I like them with facts.

I'm all for this comparison, just like comparing a gun to cars, IF WE REGULATED THEM THE SAME WAY. So, let's go over FACTS of current laws/requirements to be a smoker:

Local Sales taxes (in my area this is 7%)
Federal/State taxes which could be anywhere from 10-25% per pack (and in some states higher)
The rule at most cigarette selling distributors is if the person looks under 27, they need to be carded, EVERY time, it is very rare that I am not carded, at 26 years of age.
CONSTANT regular checks and balances by federal agencies that make sure the 18+ laws are being enforced
MASSIVE lawsuits awarded when a seller has been found at fault for death, injuries or other complications resulting from smoking (which in turn results in even MORE laws and regulations against tobacco manufacturers so that the same thing doesn't happen again)
We are no longer allowed to smoke in public arenas, and in most places have to stand 20ft away from a buildings entrance, regardless of how the venue chooses to run it's business
If a person of age is found guilty of buying cigarettes for minors, heavy fines are imposed and in some states charges can be filed

So again, if you wanted to regulate guns even HALF the way we regulate cigarettes, I'm all for it. Until then STFU with your ridiculous comparison.

>* According to the FBI, the #1 weapon used in violent crimes... is a baseball bat.
> Why is there NO outcry to RESTRICT baseball bat ownership?

Because, despite their common use, few people die from them.

Duh.

Also, the figures for Firearm homicides versus non- firearm homicides are simply wrong, and I suspect, are a purposeful lie by the graphic creator. Notice a lack of a year in the accreditation? . My best guess is that they are quoting for the year 2009, where 16799 is NOT the non-firearm homicides, it is the total number of homicides, both firearm and non-firearm. 11,493 being the firearm, i.e. 68% of the total... i.e. more than all other homicide methods combined

Stats like this are stupid, useless, and the last resort for gun-nut man-children.

Comparing transportation devices to weapons is like comparing apples to pygmy marmosets.
