Regarding the fellow with the Lumber store: Missing from the labels above, and probably the most directly influential, is the proximity of Fort Stewart, Hunter Army Airfield, Fort Frederick and Parris Island. There are approximately 20,000 active military personnel in the Savannah area at any given time, and together with families and civilian support staff, the military makes up about 28% of the population of Savannah and surroundings. I also wonder how much lumber was purchased with FEMA funds (due to hurricanes and floods) over all those years that this dude was miracling himself into a successful business?
Most businesses when they claim they did it on their own, skip the effect of natural environment and their customers, at the same time they ignore the impact their employees made on their business.
