I am so hardcore hoping there's a default. I really, really, REALLY want one now.

I just want it out of a sense of pure schadenfreude.

I've learned to keep my expectations pretty low...

won't happen, rest assured.
worst case [that i can see happening] is not a default but a downgrading of our rating

we can make the minimum payments on our loans for sure.
ya know, we just take money out of something else--like paying govt workers, or some such

Yeah, I'll probably be disappointed.

A downgrading on your rating is going to cost about $100Bn a year and will probably result in frozen credit markets again, which will probably finally take down the PIIGS...

You guys aren't just pissing on your own lawn.

I wouldn't be surprised if this whole thing was just a fit of fear mongering, like we weren't in any danger at all they're just keeping the public on edge.

They're monetizing the debt, not defaulting.

I understand that. I still hope they default. I want them to default.

Too bad a lot of good, innocent people would be destroyed by it and it would destroy the economy for years to come.

That's sort of the whole point. I honestly think this country needs a good dose of "Here's what happens when you don't make your leaders play nicely together."

I agree that the experience would be very illuminating. My point was that that illumination will come at the expense of many peoples lives. I, for one, am not willing to sacrifice that just to see the Republicans revealed for the assholes they are (there are easier, and less costly, ways of doing that).

Would the GOP every admit to this?
NO

Just look at the steadfast refusal to take responsibility for the 2008 crash. Must've been Clinton, or the 2007 congress. Yeah. That's it.

Here's why:

What's up with his trunk? If it's like that for more than 4 hours, see a doctor!

LOL! I thought it looked as if someone jammed a stick into the rotted out nose cavity of a badly decomposed carcass.
