If there is a currency collapse, we can pretty much expect civilization as it currently exists to die right then and there and for things to go mostly into post-apocalyptic mode. All paper (and digital) money becoming automatically worthless and usable for nothing more than pretty toilet paper doesn't mean that everyone will step in offering doubloons in lieu of a paycheck.
What you will see is a breakdown of social order as we revert back to basic necessities: How do I get food, clothing, and shelter so I may survive? Since paper money is worthless and only a few Libertarian Dudes have gold coins, the answer is astoundingly simple: Time to arm up and get shit the old-fashioned way.
