if men had periods, they'd brag about the size of their tampons.

Actually. The original formula for standard birth control made the period biologically redundant because of the stop of hormones. There were catholic groups that found the idea offensive (oddly) that this was possible.

So. The 'cure' has been around since the 1960's.

I agree with this as a whole but I gotta say about the last frame, there really are very few women who are actually funny. Ellen DeGeneres is a big time fluke, and likely only gets away with it because she's smart, cute and inoffensive. Rosie was all right for a while, but I think she kinda ruined her public image somehow. Are there any genuinely funny women that might be likely candidates for a late night show? Kristen Wiig? Maybe?

I would not fuck Sarah Silverman and I think she's hilarious.

I'll admit to thinking Sarah Silverman is attractive, but if you can watch her in The Aristocrats and NOT laugh, you have no sense of humor.

I'm not sure if shes right for a late night show but Wanda Sykes is funnier than 98% of comedians male or female.

Meh. She was funny in 2002. I went to see her live in 2007, and she was still doing jokes about how slovenly straight guys are and how great it is to have a gay best friend.

I'm sorry to disagree, but I think she started out with some really subversive queer humour, found a demographic who loved her, and then never wrote an original funny thing again.

Maria Bamford is hilarious, but I don't she'd ever be picked to host a late-night show. Not one on a channel people watch, anyway.

Do you think that maybe even the genuinely funny comediennes don't get as much airtime, publicity, and play as even the most mediocre male comedians?

From: [identity profile] xforge.livejournal.com
I think that's probably the case and especially worthless jagoffs like Dane Cook, Carrot Top, and Seinfeld really throw the balance completely out the window. On the other hand, up until Julia Sweeney, Tina Fey and Kristen Wiig, what SNL women were ever actually funny? Gilda Radner was funny. That's about it as far as I can remember.

Women made & targeted features are not usually about the frumpy chicks getting the hunks...

Date: 2009-11-12 10:28 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] neonleonb.livejournal.com
No, it's the *shy* chicks that win out then.

I think the point is that men-made and targeted features usually feature some dumpy, average-looking bum getting a gorgeous, successful, talented, smart, and funny woman based on...well, pretty much nothing.

I don't think I can buy that for the entertaiment industry, banking or some other industry maybe. If a woman starts writing youtube videos and they get 3 million hits each, you can bet that soon she will be writing for TV.

A lot of humour comes from being abrasive, disgusting or political. Not qualities that society promotes as being feminine.

I hate calling people "woman [job]" not because I object to identifying their gender but because it just doesn't sound right. Like you wouldn't say "man journalist" you'd say "male journalist" if you felt the need to identify him as such.
