It also depends on the flavor of Buddhism and the definition of "worship". Many sects of Buddhism believe that by reciting a mantra to someone who has attained Nirvana would eventually allow them to also achieve Nirvana. Is that worship? ehh.... Are those people they are talking to gods? ehh.....
