The guys crapping their pants over the thought of openly gay soldiers in their unit are ridiculous. "They'd see me naked in the shower! It would be just like if the women had to be in the showers with the men. I could not keep my cool on the battlefield knowing the guy having my back is gay."

When I was doing mandatory military service in Switzerland we had a gay guy. He came out to us on the first day and said "Guys, I'm gay. In case I ever get a hard-on in the showers it's nothing personal." And we're all like "Lol. No problem, man."
The deep insecurity of these big strong conservative men makes me laugh.

Dan Savage has this whole missive on this recently in his podcast.

He was talking about closeted gays who are against gay rights, one being openly serving in the military. Apparently he met one closeted guy who said this and Savage's reasoning was that some of these closeted guys are using the military as a good cover. They probably think "If I'm in the military, no one will ever suspect that I'm gay!" As soon as you allow gay people to serve it takes this cover away from them and they start freaking out.

I would clarify and say that the gay republicans are the ones who are most likely to support those who would keep them down. They have a mindset that as long as they're rich and powerful, they don't have to deal with the rules that the rabble does.

The armed services are bursting at the seams with homosexuals! Really, it's true! I served in the Army, and lemme tell ya, on some days I had to elbow homosexuals out of my way just to get to chow. I mean, think about it. It makes sense. If you're gay, you're going to want to go where the men are, right? All the fit young men. Which institutions are populated with the most fit young men? The military, am I right? Jeez, just take a breath, okay? Gays have been serving in the military for a long time, and we're not all sucking dick in the alley behind the discount tire mart just yet.
