eh, i'm almost used to assholes setting off random fireworks around here at any given time. sometimes i wonder if they're gunshots. no, i really do, because we have gang members living on our street.

but on the 4th, i expect it, so i don't get scared or pissed or anything. nor should anyone else. it's one day out of the year. i remember when our neighbor called the cops on us one year for setting off mortars at like 9pm. sorry, bitch, it's the 4th of july. get over it.

she really was a huge bitch, too.

Here in Chicago this time of year is a welcome relief from the constant gunshots.

You should be able to tell the gunshots from the fireworks, but when they are happening at the same time it kind of makes it a little more difficult to identify everything.

It's a hobby of mine. I like to lay down at night and ID the weapon discharges and count the rounds from the drive-by's.

Of course, there are NO GUNS in Chicago so this is all a figment of my imagination....

Ah, yes... don't you love our city?

I don't disagree with the gun ban, but I also defintiely realise how useless it currently is.

It's worse than useless

My personal legal opinion is that every single individual responsible for participating in this illegal, immoral, and Unconstitutional act of treason should be made to pay for their crimes.

The evidence for it is all a matter of public record so the trials should go pretty fast, as well as the appeals. From cop through assistant DA, from alderman all the way to the mayor. Is this your signature on this piece of paper detailing these acts of treason?

Guilty -next!

The traditional punishment for treason has always been hanging from the neck until dead.

What part of Shall not be infringed do people have such a problem with?
Reread that pesky first clause of the Second Amendment. It doesn't say what any of us thought it said. What it says is that infringing the right of the people to keep and bear arms is treason. What else do you call an act that endangers "the security of a free state"? And if it's treason, then it's punishable by death.

I suggest due process, speedy trials, and public hangings.

... Are you serious? I'm asking in all honest here, because I'm not sure --

Do you, them, believe that Chicago should allow firearms unrestricted, which is how your spiel here reads? Because as a hopeful future police officer, I find the possibility that you do... disturbing, to put it mildly.

Yes I am.

This was the intent of the Founding Fathers, having just fought a long and terrible war against a tyrannical government that pales against the syndicate running chicago right now.

Sooner or later the pendulum will shift and their intent will again be followed. The guilty of twisting the social contract that they enacted, and perpetuating these crimes against humanity should be punished for their actions.

I'm legitimately curious as to what else you'd put on the same level as this apparent 'crime against humanity'.

Do you feel this strongly about the misuse of the commerce clause?

It could be infinitely better, there's no denying that. The results of the gun ban are disappointing. On the other hand, I'm for not making it even easier for people in general to get their hands on weaponry.

It's a known fact by school children that Hitler banned weaponry when in the seat of power. He did not want armed resistance from those that opposed him. The same after Stalin (maybe Lenin, I never looked into it) asserted his power as well as Mao.

Tyrants want to disarm the masses and create a state monopoly on gun violence. Oscar Grant in Oakland being an example of that. Just one, of course. The thing is, an outlaw has no regard for laws. So thus bans on gun ownership only effect those who wish to not be outlaw's. Which creates two sides with no middle ground; the state, the outlaws, and the then disarmed public.

I'm not saying Obama is a fascist (in the strictest sense of the term) or anything like that. However, disarming the public is a fascistic undertaking.

Some of my friends are planning bleu cheese and bacon mini corn dogs.

There are no words that properly describe how excited I am for this.

Despite the fireworks ban in my town (NYC), a few stupid people manage to scare the whole neighborhood.

In my section of queens you'd never know there was a ban.

Are you sure those aren't gunshots? In my neighborhood, there's more loud music than fireworks or gunshots.

Well you can see them in the middle of the street silhouetted against a fire work fountain.. They might be shooting each other too though. I never stick around too long to investigate.

I was sitting watching the fireworks on Saturday and I was struck by how amazingly fucking lucky I am. There were explosions going off all around me, flashing and booming and whatnot, in the streets of the city, and I felt safe.

Also some asshole set off fireworks at 2 AM here in Detroit too. Melatonin is my damn good friend though and I dropped right back into a peaceful slumber.
