Its a shame that CoxandForkum closed down, they would have been a lot of fun in the election days.

It looks like John Cox of Cox & Forkum is still doing the occasional solo cartoon:

I kind of like this post-election one:

Oh goody. More uninformed, right wing propaganda that has no basis in fact. Yay!

Is this related to the belief the Greenspan acts independently from the government? come on, let's be realistic. The Chinese don't buy that crap, and neither should we.

I'm curious which aspects of "Government Intervention" you feel contributed the most to the current economic crisis.

As you said: Recycled. The strip is from 2002, during a period of significant power for those who supported deregulating the banks that are crumbling today. In my opinion, recycling that strip here and now only serves to illustrate how wrong CoxAndForkum were.

I am interested to hear your take on it though. How did government intervention contribute to the current state of the US economy?

I'd like to hear how you think boatloads of unconditional free money that the bail-ees can do whatever they want to do with it, is some kind of hindrance.

The hinderance is that rewarding people for irresponsible behavior is only going to beget more irresponsible behavior.

for instance...

Government intervention forced banks to give bad loans. The banks knew they weren't worth the risk, but had no choice.

Do you believe that the government is always the enemy of the economy?

I can never see his posts either. I'm glad I'm not the only one...and, heck, I'm also glad I can't see his posts.

You know sometimes something will happen to my computer that is unexplained. Usually I say something like "There's something wrong with my computer." In this case, however, I have to say "There's something right with my computer!"

Jesus loves me!

what you don't see, of course, is that cliff right to the left of the picture.

What absolute crap this is. The economy is in freefall because of the predatory lack of regulation on the finance sector. Greed has brought us to this place, not government regulation.

Switch 'economy' for 'reality_hammer'.
Switch 'govt intervention' for 'same tired ideology that got us here in the first place'.

Now you see why this post is carved from a solid block of megafail.

I think you must be mistaken. Oil has never been above $150 a barrel for any sustained period. I am also not sure what you mean by "functional economy", because we've been a recession for quite some time.

Oil is currently under $50/barrel, which is... cheap energy. Not over.
I'm not sure when growth stopped; slowed down, yes, but stopped? No.
