Dear Right-Wingers, I love God and all, but for Christ's sake (literally) shut the f--- up!

Here's a little write up on the perennial protest to which this 'toon is referring.

Also, here's a disturbing WSJ article that shows Rupert Murdoch (no relation) is having his impact on the WSJ. Yes, he's claiming the financial meltdown has been caused by the secularization of American society!

In a shameless bid to raise money and add a dollop of bitterness to the Christmas season, these folks are DEMANDING that merchants use the term “Merry Christmas” in their advertisements and in-store greetings.

I never understood this reasoning. Maybe because I always took the phrase to mean Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years, as opposed to being a multi-faith inclusive thing.

the phrase being "happy holidays" or "season's greetings"

I'm in the same boat. As a kid I always felt you said "Merry Christmas" on Christmas eve and Christmas day or when exchanging gifts. "Happy holidays" and "Season's greetings" being for the whole period. Though nowadays I say nothing of the sort as I feel Christianity as well as Christmas the Commercial entity, can both go fuck themselves.

I believe the reasoning for the knickers in a twist by Christian groups, was some American stores were specifically removing all reference to xmas and telling employees to avoid saying it as well, in the spirit of inclusion etc and well, we all know how Christians hate inclusion and equal rights.

Wow, thanks for pointing that out. I'll have to go to one of the companies on the AFA's "Christmas-hating" list to try to turn their boycott into an anti-boycott.

I also always saw it as a Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year etc all in one handy happy holidays package. Fuck them. I never thought about it much before but now I'll be sure to use Happy Holidays just to piss off Focus on the Family. Also to do my part to ruin America's Economy as well. Holy shit I knew Wall Street Journal leaned to the right but that was just ridiculous.

It's sad and disturbing how much they sound like nothing more than spoiled children sometimes...

Child: "I want everybody to say 'Merry Christmas'".

Adult: "No. You can say 'Merry Christmas' if you want to, but some people celebrate other holidays instead."

Child: "But Christmas is funner! Everybody should do Christmas!"

Adult: "I'm glad you enjoy Christmas, but you can't make other people do something, just because you want them to."

Child: *pouts* "If they don't say 'Merry Christmas' then... they HATE ME!"

It cracks me up when I hear these fringe groups talk about how we were founded on Christian principles. Nevermind most of the founding fathers were children of the Enlightenment in which was a secular movement. Most of the thinkers they quoted and borrowed from were agnostic, atheist, or deist.

And fundamentally? People came to this country for religious freedom (well some groups). I wonder if they realize what they're doing is akin to what would have been done in England against the Pilgrims. I don't know.

Sometimes you got to respect that people don't feel the same way you do. A store doesn't want to discriminate against anyone who would like to shop there.
