That's not from Republicans, that is from Bill Ayers himself (http://www.suntimes.com/news/politics/obama/1278532,bill-ayers-barack-obama-book-111308.article).
"We had served together on the board of a foundation, knew one another as neighbors and family friends, held an initial fund-raiser at my house, where I'd made a small donation to his earliest political campaign."
Funny, because in the broadcast interview he did last week with "Good Morning America", he said that he and Obama were acquaintances from their time on the board together, but were not especially close.
Hmmmm, well Ayers says they weren't really close. Obama says they weren't really close. Logic would dictate that probably means they weren't really close.
No, naivety would dictate they they're not close. How many people who you barely knew would want to have you launch your political career in their living room?
Logic dictate that it's beneficial for Obama and Ayers to distance themselves from each other at this time. Given that both of them have changed their stories numerous times, usually when confronted with evidence that indicates that they have been closer than they let on, then it should be clear that they're both lying,
Oh, I'm sorry, you actually have some evidence (contradictory to what both they, and several others involved have gone on record saying) that Obama "launch[ed] [his] political career in [Ayers'] living room"? And why precisely would it be advantageous for Ayers to lie? And just curious, when did Obama change his story? Because, I've been following this since it first came up, and Obama has been consistent. And Ayers hasn't even gone on record about it until the interview last week. Before that, he didn't say anything on the matter. You go ahead and call it naiveté if that makes you happy. I prefer to refer to it as not falling for more right wing bullshit and lies.
Ya know, the only problem I have with this is "family friend of Obama". The right wing(nuts) continue to try to give the idea that they are drinking buddies. That they hang out, watch basketball together and plot the demise of the US gubmint.
Well, we PROBABLY don't like it mostly because it's a load of horseshit. Both Obama and Ayers have stated that their relationship was nothing more than as colleagues on the board of the Woods Foundation. The right wing created this myth that they were somehow closer than this. Guess what, there is NO reliable evidence to lend credence to the idea that Ayers and Obama were buddies. NONE. So whay do right wing drones like you keep perpetuating this myth? Because it serves your agenda to villify our next president. How sad it must be that you don't even have anything real to villify him on, but you have to lie and make shit up. And the right wing wonders why the electorate so roundly rejected them on November 4th......
1) Terrorist? Well, whatever. The 60s and early 70s were a very different time, there were lots and lots and LOTS of unbathed Daishiki-wearing hippie freaks who'd do pretty much anything in their power to get someone to listen to all the people saying FOR FUCK'S SAKE QUIT FUCKING KILLING OUR CHILDREN THEIR CHILDREN AND ANY RANDOM NUMBER OF INNOCENT MEN, WOMEN, DOGS AND COWS IN SOME SOUTHEAST ASIAN SWAMP WE HAVE NO FUCKING PLACE BEING. And consistent with a trend set forth thousands of years ago, those grubby sandal-wearers who never left college because it might mean someone would put an M16 in their hand and force them to go kill Gooks, they all ended up staying in academia and becoming professors. For better or for worse, that's what you got teaching college, and it's been that way for pretty much ever, so y'know what, if you haven't learned to deal with it by now, it's your problem.
2) Oh, also? Ayers is a piker compared to some of the freaks I've met out there, and I only went to college for 3 years. He's Andy Fricking Griffith by comparison.
I like the level of discourse in here! I feel like I'm in fucking grade school again.
While educators definitely have the teaching tools, it's just as easy for a student to not give a fuck and just take a damn class for a grade. Yeah some will get swept up in it, but you'll also have plenty who'll think their full of bullshit. If they are smart enough to take what the prof is saying and come to their own conclusion (whether you agree with it or not) that should be well enough. Free thought is free thought.
Nah, let's impeach Obama now before he has a chance to do anything at all...because even though he's been voted in by the US electorate (unlike the times they voted in a Republican) this time they didn't know what they were doing. The Republican propaganda machine didn't quite win it for the 'powers of good', and we can't let the process of democracy be hi-jacked by a majority of voters, now, can we? So vote now to impeach Obama....just in case he does something with which anyone sensible (ie the Fox News audience) thinks is wrong.

Date: 2008-11-20 12:56 am (UTC)Yes, especially because if I remember rightly, the interview question was based on his statement that Obama was a family friend.
