More like how dare he have hilariously extreme and radical viewpoints, which makes you wonder how someone like that can function with the rest of society.
point taken, but there is a thought that I often need to remind myself. I wish I could remember the author, and exact quote for that matter, but the jist is that human sadness is like gas, in that no matter how much of it there is, it fills the space completely. So even if a tragedy is small or large, that sadness fills the entire space of the heart.
and there are 700 people who are wounded, many lost limbs and arms...one of the blasts occurred in front of the British Medical Association, which blood and other human remains were spattered up to five stories up.
the thing is, human suffering does not have a nationality. in what language does anyone cry. it's fucked up horrible people on both sides, and lots of innocent people on either side.
and it would have been a lot more deaths, but they diffused the many other explosive devices found all over the underground. sorry more people didn't die, so that it would matter for you.
maybe i'm just sensitive since the blasts were so close to my house. the fact remains you are an idiot. your cartoons are stupid. why not spend a bit more time reading and a little less time drawing, so that next time you put you're little scribblings up, they do more justice to complex multifaced issues.
I dont know why everyone [such as you] seems to have misunderstood a perfectly clear cartoon. It's not about which tragedy is more important, or how many people have died; It's an accurate representation of the reality [whether we accept it or not] that a lot of the western world only cares about what goes on in the western world, and its those events that the media focuses on, rather than what goes on in places we don't always think about. Its not necessarily ok to blame the west [the media can be blamed, maybe, but the viewers not so much], but its also not ok to condone their lack of interest either.
the fact remains you are an idiot. your cartoons are stupid.
Idiot's don't have the ability to form the symbolism, satire, and metaphoric imagery that Political Cartoons require. Let's see you spit out a good political cartoon, let alone one that could spark a reasonable debate.
why not spend a bit more time reading and a little less time drawing, so that next time you put you're little scribblings up, they do more justice to complex multifaced issues.
1)This guy seems to be well informed on a lot of issues. As a matter of fact, I'm sure he could tell you a detailed history of israel and palestine, one that would put their struggles and the accompanying horrors into context regarding which tragedy is more devastating. And all that information comes from reading [whens the last time anybody on tv or the radio explained the israel/palestine conflict?].
2) the art is in the simplicity vs. symbolism. i think he did a very good job with his "scribbles".
that's the problem with this cartoon, it is perfectly clear...there's no subtletly, and it's just saying the obvious. my point is that it's a tragedy whoever is killed by this, or other cowardly acts. including those by the huge israel military, and the ghettos their forcing upon someone else. but guess what, killing is wrong, whether it's the military, or some guy with plastic sound explosives. and really, it's not the world, it's a few billionaires in their ivory towers, controlling what the media portrays. how can people feel upset about something that they never hear about it. I just hate how this idiot tries to portray everything in such simplistic terms.
besides, these type of cartoons only try and get people to dry a line in the sand, instead of fostering an atmosphere to discuss. it's all like, no you're wrong, no you're wrong. what use of metaphor, so he personified the globe. isn't that a bit ethnicentric. wouldn't that be a more western viewpoint and not a world viewpoint. the other problem with this cartoon is that you could interchange it with so many different issues. the people dying of aids in Africa, poverty, well everywhere, sudan, iraq. and if you really have a problem with these people dying, you should try and find out what you can do, so you're tax dollars stop funding it.
and it's 52 people now, not including those still buried alive. did you know that they estimate that the entire rat population of the underground has fled to that spot to eat the remains.
did you know that a third of Israeli's oppose what is going on in their name. that means, when those palestinean terrorists blow themselves up, hypothetically, 1/3 of those dead could be their allies. they're shoudl have the courage to respond with peace. some isrealis are reaping violence, as are some palestineans, and everyone is left to sow that violence.
it's a bad analogy. if wanted a more effective cartoon he should choose events that parallel each other more closely. this is an ongoing campaign, as the other occurred in one day. he should of choosen a particular Israli strike to compare.
And besides, the bomb went off in highly Arab areas. One went off in an area where many of the signs are in arabic, while another you can here people haggling as if it were Morroco. It's just very strange.
and this is the US media. European media is a lot different, not perfect, but far many more viewpoints are represented. He should take a look at what the German prime minister said regarding the attack.
I just don't get how a few Americans can know the mindset of the entirety of the western world. Noam Chompsky's books are best sellers here, they're not buying what the U.S. is trying to spoonfeed them. Whenever I pass parliament here, there's a 24 hour peace vigil in front. There's various protests, ones against Iraq, about Latuff's favorite issues, and various other causes. There were 2.2 million people who marched here against the Iraq war and you're telling me they don't care. I hate his stuff because he makes too many generalizations. If he knows a lot about this issue it sure doesn't show.
Jesus Christ people here are off their rockers. What the cartoon is saying is basically right. We generally ignore what's going on in the middle east, be it Palestinian deaths, Jewish deaths, Albanians, Sudanese, whatever they are. This didn't have to turn into some pro-Palestine or pro-Israel debate.
Both sides are total shitheads who think they're right. I'm a total shithead because I think I'm right about both sides being total shitheads.
Overall, I think it's a wonder that Britain didn't annihilate Ireland for their people's terrorist activities. Will Britain wield this like we did 9/11? No, I hope not. We barely even have the Madrid bombings in our consciousness. What about Japan? Weren't there more deaths there in a subway bombing just a few years ago?

Agreed. And I think it extends beyond just the middle east. Before this past year, how much did you hear about various genocides in Africa? Does anyone remember the tsunami that killed nearly 200,000 people? I haven't heard about that humanitarian crisis in months.
C'mon you guys! CNN and FOX and MSNBC spends all their freaking time worrying about some stupid girl that got kidnapped in Aruba or, worse, Michael Jackson antics. If you believe that the Western news reflects the interests of Western society (which is a stretch, I admit, but holds a grain of truth) then we obviously care a lot more about Americans and American looking people than we do about those in third world countries.

Yeah, but Latuff didn't make it about the Jews, Albanians, Sudanese or whoever. He made it about the Palestinians. Of course, it's a matter of what's new on the news. People also sleep through news of car bombs in Baghdad these days. It's the norm. Things blowing up in London, however, doesn't happen every day, at least not these days.
Overall, I think it's a wonder that Britain didn't annihilate Ireland for their people's terrorist activities.
3300 people died on all sides in 'The Troubles' over 35 years. That's less than 100 people a year. Hardly warrants genocide.
Will Britain wield this like we did 9/11?
No, because the body count is what, 2% of 9/11? Furthermore, I'm sure a lot more Britons died in 9/11 than on 7/7. Lastly, London has been dealing with explosions in the city for decades, from the Blitz to the IRA to this. The British response to such events is understated defiance.
We barely even have the Madrid bombings in our consciousness.
Well, there are plenty of Americans who barely have 9/11 on their consciousness.
What about Japan? Weren't there more deaths there in a subway bombing just a few years ago?
Nope. 11 died, though thousands were injured by nerve gas.
Terrific! I'm glad you posted that, tempted to nick it for my own journal. I sometimes feel like I've spent my whole life harping on about being a Londoner and I don't think that's in any way a slight to the recent bombing victims; it simply points out an obscene double standard.

Both this and your cartoon ignore the larger issue, which is fault on both sides.
Should be getting better with Arafat gone though.
