Ideally the governmental protections of free speech override anything an employer or other private organization in a position of authority over you can demand. In real life it is, of course, not so simple, but ideally only the government could really trample such rights.
The joke is that private organizations can just as easily trample rights as the government, but the lack of any real distinction between de jure oppression and de facto oppression is lost on those who see the government as irredeemably evil and corporations as incorruptibly good.
